As the fight over the SAVE America Act creates a stir among Republicans, President Donald Trump’s effort to get the proposed election bill off the hook has found one notable ally.
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., told Fox News Digital that he supports the election integrity measure and pointed out that Trump should continue to use all available tools to pressure the Senate to pass it.
“He’s going to try everything he can to make sure he succeeds,” McCarthy said in a brief interview outside the US Capitol.
The former speaker’s comments come after Trump abruptly canceled a signing ceremony Wednesday for a bipartisan housing bill to pressure the Republican-controlled Senate to act on the SAVE America Act.

The move surprised Republican lawmakers, some of whom were praising the bill’s passage at a press conference when Trump’s Social Truth book broke.
But Trump has reiterated election measures — requiring proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections and voter identification requirements — as his legislative priorities.
The legislation’s momentum, however, faltered in the upper chamber, where the Republican leadership insisted that the votes were not there amid widespread opposition from the Democratic Alliance. Senate Republicans are also reluctant to end the filibuster of the legislation, which requires a minimum of 60 votes to pass the legislation.

TRUMP EMAILS BROKEN VOTING AS SENATE STARTS DEBATE OVER NEW VOTER ID LAW.
During this SAVE standoff, a group of conservative lawmakers successfully shut down the House in an attempt to force the Senate to act on the election bill.
But the Senate adjourned Wednesday for the two-week July 4 holiday, leaving the measure in limbo until lawmakers return.
The conservative-led ban sparked a major backlash, with several members of the GOP convention telling Fox News Digital that the move risks undermining their legislative agenda.
Meanwhile, the House has yet to pass a version of the legislation that includes the president’s top priorities, including the voter deficit and provisions barring men from competing in women’s sports and child sex-change procedures.
Trump has not said whether he will sign the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, despite having a veto-proof majority.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., told reporters Thursday that the housing bill has been forwarded to the White House for Trump’s signature following a meeting with the president.
