Britons visiting America for World Cup admit: ‘They were wrong’

The British are coming…to apologize.

As the World Cup takes over cities across the country, travelers from the UK are getting a taste of the Red, White and Blue. And tons of apologies along the way.

Many Brits have admitted on social media that their perceptions of the US were wrong.

In a series of TikTok’s across the pond, the Brits honestly share their experience in the US and expose the media in their country “painting this strange story” about Uncle Sam.

“America is not what the media tells us,” said World Cup runner Oliver Henry, on TikTok as @oliver.henry.w, in a recent post.

Some of those myths told: Americans are green, kind, safe and proud – just to name a few. But people see a different side of the world, and they fall in love.

Host cities welcome foreigners with open arms as they treat our common place as something wonderful. Our red fire trucks, Walmart, Buc-ee’s and free refills have guests in awe of our heart.

“Hundreds of thousands of World Cup fans are now seeing America through their own eyes, realizing that the story they’ve been fed is a lie,” said the Brit who lives in America, and streams imjoshfromengland2 on TikTok.

He added, “We’ve all seen videos of Europeans experiencing America for what it really is, and it’s amazing.”

You are right. Recently, a German soccer fan has gone viral for posting videos documenting his newfound love affair with American hot spots.

Freddy, who posts on X as @FreddyLA7, shared his six-week World Cup road trip through the Southern United States, where he visited the “holy land,” or as we call it, Taco Bell.

He also gave Waffle House a glowing review after his 1 am food tour.

Fans of his American tour have all flooded the comments section, offering basic things to check out. X users are now urging the football star (fan) to hit Grand Rapids, Philadelphia, and Lake Erie for a food tour.

Football fan Henry took to TikTok to share his love for America and admitted that he made a mistake too.

“We owe America a big apology…everyone is friendly, everyone is kind, and I honestly had the best time.” Brit spent his time in Texas watching England play Croatia at AT&T Stadium and didn’t want to leave.

In fact, nearly $10,000 has been raised on his GoFundMe account to get him back to the States, where he can enjoy England again.

Henry revealed that he will be heading to Boston for the England v Ghana match, and will then travel to Washington DC where he hopes to stay on the Fourth of July.

While Europe has a rich history full of beautiful architecture, people in the UK find beauty in what our melting pot has to offer. An Englishman visited Pasadena City Hall in California and was blown away by its beauty.

“I feel like I’m in Italy right now…this looks like something out of Rome,” he said, gazing at the building, which combines Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival elements.

“Whoever said America doesn’t have history or beautiful architecture, they’re wrong,” he added.

Another TikToker named Skylar Skye posted her experience in the country two weeks later, “Everyone has been friendly to me. Everyone wants to talk to me. Everyone has been giving me advice about my trip and has been really helpful.”

“Americans welcomed me with open arms, and because of that I fell in love with the USA,” said one Brit on TikTok.

It is not clear whether the US and England will face each other in the World Cup stage this year, but one thing remains—the relationship between the Brits and the Americans has surprised us all.
