CNN panel raves about JD Vance’s brilliance, admits media blitz ‘impressive’ following ‘The View’ appearance

CNN panelists praised Vice President JD Vance’s recent media appearances and praised his performance on “The View,” calling his spotlight “amazing.”

Contributor Lulu Garcia-Navarro opened a discussion of the Vance media blitz during CNN’s “The Arena Saturday” by pointing to the vice president’s appearance as he promoted his new book and defended the Trump administration’s Iran deal.

“I can only say, as a part, the light of JD Vance in this is very impressive. The tan, the trimness, the sharp suits. I want to notice, you know, he shows himself in a very bright way,” said Garcia-Navarro.

Former Rep. Patrick McHenry, RN.C., said Vance showed resilience during a week of high-profile media appearances.

“And like a monster of a week. I mean, he’s done really well with tough conversations over and over again. I mean, just watching that episode is an amazing piece of resilience,” McHenry said.

Garcia-Navarro, who interviewed Vance, said the vice president’s work on television is a well-known phenomenon.

“He’s a good conversationalist. I’ve talked to him, and he’s a good conversationalist. He’s a good communicator. He communicates on many levels. This is one of his strong suits,” she said.

Jamal Simmons, former communications director for former Vice President Kamala Harris, said Vance deserves credit for appearing on ABC’s “The View” where he faced tough questions.

“I give him credit for going on ‘The View,'” Simmons said. “This is his foreign territory, and I don’t know that I would advise many leaders to go to a potentially hostile environment.”

The panel then watched a clip from “The View,” where host Ana Navarro challenged Vance about Trump’s claim that he favors “inflation.”

Vance said Trump says he likes that inflation will go down once the war ends.

“What he said, Ana, what he said is that he likes the fact that inflation will go down once this war is over. That’s what he said,” Vance said.

Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Dispatch, walked out of the CNN panel and accused Vance of relying on misleading statements while defending President Donald Trump’s agenda.

After host Pamela Brown asked if Vance had effectively defended Trump, Goldberg denied it.

“I’m parting ways with you all, from this esteemed JD Vance community,” Goldberg said.

Goldberg argued that Vance’s exchange reflects a broader flaw in his political style, saying the vice president is most effective when he reshuffles his opponents’ positions.

“That clip, a bunch of other clips, shows one of the biggest problems with JD Vance is that he can always win an argument when he’s fighting a straw man, when he’s lying about the facts, when he’s creating, when he’s working on a false premise,” Goldberg said.

Vance appeared on “The View” Tuesday while promoting his new memoir, “The Feast: Finding My Way Back to Faith,” which was released June 16. The appearance came amid a heavy media week in which Vance also defended Trump’s memorandum of understanding with Iran.
