How does ‘Dragon House’ Season 3: Battle of the Gullet compare to the book?

In The House of the BeastIn the Season 2 finale, Lysene Admiral Sharako Lohar (Abigail Thorn) announced that the Triarchy’s fleet was headed for the Gullet, the waters blocked by Corlys Velaryon’s (Steve Toussaint) forces, “tomorrow.”
Well, the “future” reached two years of waiting The House of the Beast viewers, but in the series of Season 3 of the show, that scheduled day finally arrives. And the next day comes the best piece of the Battle of the Gullet.
‘House of the Dragon’ review: Season 3 atones for the sins of Season 2
In both The House of the Beast and its sources, George RR Martin’s Targaryen history Fire and BloodThe Battle of the Gullet marks a major turning point in Dance of the Dragons. It ends Team Green’s attempts to force the Triarchy, and sees the death of Prince Jacaerys Velaryon (Harry Collett). Both of these important events carry over from the book to the show, which follows the Battle of the Gullet. However, the system also changes several key aspects of how Battle of the Gullet plays.
From the surprise of the Sheepstealer to the death of Lohar, here are all the major differences between them The House of the Beast again Fire and Blood‘s Battle of the Gullet.

In Fire and BloodJace isn’t the only one of Queen Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) sons to die in the Battle of the Gullet. His two young sons with Daemon (Matt Smith), Aegon and Viserys, are there. They boarded Gay Abandonthe ship takes them to Pentos for safety. Unfortunately, safety is the exact opposite of what they find, as they are caught in a naval battle. Aegon runs away from his young dragon Stormcloud. He returns to Dragonstone, but Stormcloud is badly injured in the process. Meanwhile, Viserys hides his dragon egg and disguises himself as a ship’s boy aboard the Lysene crew. He is soon discovered and becomes Lohar’s hostage.
None of this happens in between The House of the Beast. The strange thing is that Season 2 revealed that the boys will be involved in the battle, Lady Jeyne Arryn (Amanda Collin) who was chosen as the best player. Gay Abandon as he takes the boys to Pentos.
The plot against Aegon and especially Viserys’ storylines has far-reaching implications for the future of Westeros. However, The House of the Beast the majority You probably don’t go that far in Targaryen history, so leaving out the brothers’ gruesome jaunt at sea helps defuse the war.

Throughout season 2, Jace challenged Rhaenyra’s decisions, especially her plan to recruit dragonseeds. (In the book, it was her idea.) However, in the Season 3 premiere, she completely defies him, imprisoning him in Dragonstone to prevent him from flying out to the Battle of the Gullet itself. He says it’s a defensive move, but there’s a bit of glory-hunting in there too. He tells Baela (Bethany Antonia) that their goal is to win Rhaenyra’s battle. But maybe they could do that outside being careless teenagers, right?
The funniest moment from the ‘House of the Dragon’s Season 3 premiere isn’t even in the book
Jace’s move against his mother is a new part of the show, but it provides interesting reasons why Rhaenyra doesn’t fly to the Gullet herself. Fire and Blood. In Martin’s work, Rhaenyra doesn’t actually get too involved in combat, instead commanding from Dragonstone. But his version of the show wants to be on the field more, which means they have to keep coming up with new ways to stop him. Jace’s disdain is the culmination of the tension between the two, and makes his death even more painful for Rhaenyra. The last interaction he had with his eldest son was to stop him from protecting him.

Fire and Blood it is written as a historical document, so some characters are a little down on the page. One such character is Sharako Lohar. We know he’s a formidable admiral, not much else.
The House of the Beast wants to show Lohar further, with both the gender reversal established in the Season 2 finale, and his hatred for Corlys Velaryon, revealed in the Season 3 premiere as the real reason for signing the contract with Tyland Lannister (Jefferson Hall). That motivation brings an extra layer of vitriol to Lohar’s decision to fire High Tide. Also, it leads to that incredibly suspicious ship chase in a small area, so I’m not complaining.

RIP Tyland Lannister, who did not died in the Battle of Gullet in between Fire and Blood. At this point in the book, he is abroad in Myr. The House of the Beast will not be adapted far enough to be Fire and Blood to make his return to Westeros worthwhile, so he’s perfect cannon fodder for Gullet. And what a way to go, pushed by Lohar to lighten his ship’s load. Sorry Tyland, but let this be a lesson to all other sailors that you should always choose a life vest over protection.

Battle of the Gullet is the unholy love child of naval warfare and dragon warfare, but certain dragons differ between Fire and Blood again The House of the Beast.
In Fire and BloodJace leads an attack on the Triarchy fleet with his dragon Vermax. He is joined by the dragonseeds and their dragons: Ulf the White (Tom Bennett) in Silverwing, Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty) in Seasmoke, Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew) in Vermithor, and lowborn Driftmark resident Nettles in Sheepstealer.
The House of the Beast make a few changes to this list. To: Baela in Moondancer. Out: three male dragonseeds, camping near Harrenhal until further notice. Nettles are also cut The House of the Beast completely. His story is intertwined with that of Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell), who controls the Sheepstealer. We’re talking about…

Rhaena who is the Sheepstealer in the Season 3 premiere is already very different Fire and Blood. (RIP Nettles, we never knew.) But what happened next is a tie More of deviation. Instead of helping Rhaenyra’s side, Sheepstealer unleashes friendly dragon fire on Velaryon’s ships and attacks Vermax and Moondancer. That’s not how you train your wild dragon, Rhaena.
Rhaena’s unwitting involvement in Jace’s death resets the key arc Fire and Blood: Rhaenyra’s hatred for the Sheepstealer rider. Apparently, there’s no Nettles to hate on the show, so The House of the Beast it is reused. Instead of Rhaenyra despising Nettles for her closeness to Daemon, she will likely end up hating Rhaena for the role she played in Jace’s death. Yet another tragedy for the Targaryen family to add to the tally.
Sharako Lohar dies The House of the Beastbut he lives inside Fire and Blood.

Sharako Lohar joins Jace, Tyland, and Rhaena’s mental health as a casualty of the Battle of the Gullet. Corlys bastard son Alyn from Hull (Abubakar Salim) is credited with pulling him out of a vicious one-man feud.
However, Sharako is always past the Battle of the Gullet Fire and Blood. He is still the hostage of the young Prince Viserys, and he eventually sold him. His assassination on the ground creates a great war within the dysfunctional Triarchy. And, since The House of the Beast won’t adapt to that much future, killing Lohar is another direction. It will always be appropriate to “Gullet tomorrow,” however, even if that tomorrow has passed.
The House of the Beast Season 3 is now streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes premiering Sundays at 9 pm ET on HBO and HBO Max.
