Medina Retains WBO Title in Guadalajara

Christian Medina (27-4, 19 KOs), fighting in his hometown, got off to a quick start by knocking out Curiel in the opening round and finding success to the body in the early stages. Medina continued that way in the second and third rounds, seeming to build on himself.
Adrian Curiel (26-7-1, 5 KOs), the former IBF light flyweight champion, adjusted from the fourth to the seventh round, increasing his work and work level to bring the fight back to a balanced state.
Curiel had one of his best moments in the eighth round, landing a clean overhand that snapped Medina’s head back. Medina responded in the ninth with a very sharp punch to the head, and the tenth round remained a close contest, with Curiel closing in on power in the final seconds.
The eleventh round was tight, with Medina holding a slight edge, and the twelfth saw Medina do enough to secure the decision in a fight that remained a stalemate until the final bell.
The judges scored 120-108, 116-112, and 115-113 in favor of Medina. Jose Hiram Rivera served as referee.
Mora Rally is seeking the WBO NABO Featherweight Title
Alberto Mora won an early title fight to defeat Jose Amaro by decision in a 10-round featherweight title fight for the WBO NABO title.
Mora (14-0, 9 KOs), from Mexico City, was knocked out in the opening round but recovered quickly. Amaro (12-2-1, 4 KOs), a southpaw from Monterrey, held the edge in the second round, and the third and fourth rounds were closely contested with Mora slightly ahead.
The fight continued to be competitive in the middle rounds. Mora finished the sixth strong, pinning Amaro against the ropes, and Amaro landed a right hook in the eighth that drew blood from Mora’s nose. Both fighters traded blows in the ninth minute before Mora closed the show with a solid tenth round with some powerful exchanges.
Scores were 97-92 twice and 96-93. Referee Miguel Canuel was in charge.
Cordero Takes Split Decision at Super Lightweight
Super lightweight Abraham “Bombi” Cordero won a split decision over Eduardo Martinez in a 10-round fight.
Cordero (17-6-2, 8 KOs), from Guadalajara, spent a lot of time fighting against the ropes and countering Martinez (16-3, 11 KOs). The action stayed even in the middle rounds, with neither fighter establishing steady control.
Martinez finished the tenth round strong, but the judges gave the decision to Cordero with scores of 97-93 and 96-94, and Martinez received one card at 96-95. Pablo Diaz was the referee.
Juarez Remains Undefeated Against Sanchez
Super welterweight Sabastian Juarez is undefeated with a six-round decision win over Ernesto “Mamba” Sanchez.
Juarez (11-0, 8 KOs), from Brownsville, Texas, knocked out Sanchez in the first three rounds. Sanchez (5-3-1, 4 KOs) held his own in the fourth and fifth, landing a hard left hand in the fifth round that briefly checked Juarez’s momentum.
The final round was competitive, with Juarez being warned for hitting on the break. The judges scored it 59-54, 59-55, and 58-56.
Carbajal Wins Pro Debut
Super bantamweight Roberto “Prandini” Carbajal made a successful debut, defeating Edgar Vazquez in four rounds.
Carbajal (1-0) knocked out Vazquez (2-2) in the second round and dominated the action, though he couldn’t stop it. All three judges scored the match 40-35.
