Gwyneth Paltrow surprises Savannah Guthrie with an unusual food hack

Do you have arugula?
Gwyneth Paltrow revealed on the “Today” show Wednesday that she substitutes milk for leafy greens in her recipes — a comment that left Savannah Guthrie confused.
“If you want to avoid dairy, one trick I do is to sell arugula and put it in,” explained the Goop creator, 53, while making turkey meatballs in the cooking section.
“Really?” Guthrie, 54, asked. “That’s weird.”
Admitting that the exchange “felt weird,” Paltrow said, “it adds a nice texture to it, and it’s fun.”
Guthrie made an “OK” gesture as the actor continued to cook.
Social media users had a blast with the clip, with one chuckling, “If I don’t have milk in my cake mix, I just add grass clippings.”
One joked, “If grandma had wheels, she’d be a bicycle!”
Some want Paltrow to “go straight to jail,” while others sarcastically praise the “filth” or “wood planks” that are “prone.”
One fan, however, came to the Oscar winner’s defense in the comments section.
“Sounds weird but I think it’s beside the point,” the Instagram user wrote. “Instead of adding grated parmigiano, you can add diced arugula. This will soften the texture and add flavor and moisture.”
Paltrow has made headlines for her diet in the past, when Meghan McCain accused the “Marty Supreme” star of promoting a “hunger diet” in 2023.
The callout, in particular, came after Paltrow revealed on “The Art of Being Well” podcast that she ate bone broth for lunch, intermittently fasted and used IV drips.
The Golden Globe winner then defended herself on Instagram stories, insisting, “I eat whole foods. And I have days where I eat whatever I want, French fries or whatever. My bottom line was to try to eat healthy.”
Last year, Paltrow admitted that she had been “tight-handed” about her diet in the past as she stripped away from the Paleo diet.
“I’m going back to eating sourdough bread, cheese. … A little pasta,” he shared with listeners of the “Goop Podcast” in April 2025. “I said it there.”
