Grey’s Anatomy Fans Question Kate Walsh’s Addison Continuity Mistake

After Kate Walsh returned Grey’s Anatomyviewers noticed a possible continuity error involving Addison.
During Walsh’s guest appearance in a recent episode, Addison and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) appeared to bond over the cake plate. But while Amelia, now an adult, paired that with a glass of milk, Addison chose wine.
“Quick question for the Grey’s Anatomy writers,” read a text from an X fan. “Why did you bring Addison back in season 18 and tell us she had an alcohol problem, but only show her casually drinking WINE in season 22?”
Some social media users responded that they were confused as to whether Addison had an alcohol problem after seeing her carrying wine. Others, however, pointed out that Addison never said she didn’t drink.
“He’s not an alcoholic or he claimed to be. Everyone was drinking heavily when he was in solitary confinement,” commented the reply. “And many sober people are comfortable with other people drinking around them … they go to parties and bars and eat with family.”
The biggest problem for some, however, was Addison’s drinking in front of Amelia after helping her drink. “A PERSON who guided the entry and supported him through all his ups and downs with confidence,” read the reply.

Elsewhere in the episode, Addison visited Amelia to help with a pregnant patient who was suffering from a tumor that was affecting her vision. In an attempt to get Amelia back, Addison reveals that her marriage to husband Jake (Benjamin Bratt) may be over.
Addison refused to share any more details about their problems, but Amelia finally convinced her to open up. Addison said Jake was forcing her to choose between their marriage and her career – and she chose the latter.
Addison and Amelia talk about her options before realizing that the relationship probably can’t be saved. They ended the episode meeting at Amelia’s apartment, but it remains to be seen what Addison will do with her personal life.
“There is always hope!” Walsh, 58, told Variety. “Look, what he’s doing is very different, and everything has changed a lot. I think it would be really interesting to see what happens or see what happens with it.”
Walsh then defended the story despite the backlash.
“I really loved myself [this breakup story line]. I was like, ‘He’s got to be in danger,’” Walsh added, “My thing is, I love that he’s doing all these things and he’s coming back. There is this kind of desperation, but how does that really manifest in his life? How does it show up at work? What does the clinic look like? Is Oceanside still [around]? What’s going on?”
He went on to say:[I want] holding back and seeing the consequences of the decisions he makes and the sacrifices he makes. I think most people can relate to this. “
Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC on Thursdays at 10 pm ET before airing the next day on Hulu.
