Katie Bates ‘Lost’ Family Relationship After Past Incident

Katie Bates opens up about a family crisis after talking about an incident from her childhood.
“I’ve been inundated with messages like this from people who really care about me so I want to answer this as honestly as possible,” Bates, 25, wrote on his Instagram Story on Wednesday, May 20, when he answered a user’s question about his decision to leave Tennessee. “A lot of people are confused about my decision to leave Tennessee, especially because from the outside it may look like I have a great support system here. The truth is, sometimes things that happen behind closed doors are more complicated and painful than what people see in public.”
She continued, “I recently chose to talk about something that happened in my childhood that I wish I had had the strength to deal with years ago. Unfortunately after doing so I lost my relationship with about 90 percent of my family. This has been incredibly sad and difficult to deal with. I will not share details online, but I am also done pretending everything is fine just to protect visibility.”
Bates noted that living in Tennessee is “not healthy” right now.
“I choose to move forward, finally recover and build a peaceful life for myself and my children,” she wrote. “Above all, I lean on God so much right now even when things are painful, confusing and lonely.
“Sadly I learned that not everyone will support your choice when you finally choose to be honest and heal and that’s okay,” she concluded. “Right now I’m focused on protecting my peace, my children and the life I’m trying to build moving forward.”
In a separate Instagram story, Bates responded to a user asking if she and her husband, Travis Clarkthey do. (In January, Clark revealed that he had cheated on Bates. The two have been married since 2023 and have two children.)
“Marriage can be difficult at times and unfortunately what Travis did didn’t make things any easier,” she wrote. “Trav and I are dealing with issues and making great progress, but there are definitely still tough days. With God’s help we both continue to counsel each other and our children as we work through this difficult time.”
Bates went on to say that he is still undergoing treatment, which he hopes will continue “for a long, long time.”
“My first contact with a therapist was back in February and life was really changing for me,” he wrote in a separate Instagram Story, while answering a user’s question. “I didn’t realize how much I needed it until I finally started opening up and fixing things. It’s helped me understand myself better, deal with difficult emotions in a healthy way and I think it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made.”
