Suspect Tupac Shakur’s killer is pushing back Suge Knight’s upcoming memoir

Suspected Tupac Shakur killer Duane “Keefe D” Davis isn’t worried that Suge Knight will include him in an upcoming memorial since he was involved in the shooting death of the rapper.
Knight, who is currently serving a 28-year sentence for the 2015 mass shooting, is expected to release his memoir “Your Pain is My Joy” on Aug. 4. Knight has promised to reveal intricate details in the book about the night Shakur was killed.
The memo’s August release date is less than a week before Davis’ 1996 murder trial begins.
Davis’ Las Vegas attorney Michael Sanft told the California Post that he and his client are not concerned about the memorial influencing the judge or the case.
Davis has made several confessions over the years about his involvement in Shakur’s murder, including getting into the Cadillac that was the source of the gunfire that killed the rapper. He also admitted that he was the one who “made the call” and provided the gun that killed Tupac.
Despite Davis’ confession, Sanft remains confident that prosecutors don’t have enough evidence to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt that he was involved. He feels confident he can win Davis’ case, which he believes was unfairly treated, adding that his client spoke “bulls–t.”
Knight said his 352-page book, released by publishers Gallery Books, will tell the truth about the times before, during and after his close friend and Death Row Records singer Shakur was shot near the Vegas Strip.
Knight was driving the BMW in which Shakur was killed, sitting in the passenger seat. The two were involved in an argument at a Vegas casino with a group of men shortly before the shooting.
Sanft says he and Davis are not interested in Knight’s writings. “Honestly, at the end of the day, I don’t think Suge will be involved in this case,” he told The Post.
“What’s interesting about Suge is that he announced that he will release a book on August 4. In that book, he will identify the shooter. I don’t even know what will be in the book. At this point, it is what it is. If he says one thing or the other, I don’t think it’s important for our defense,” he added.
When asked if it was possible that allegations from Knight could influence public opinion before the trial and taint the jury, he said he still has hope for the system.
“It’s very difficult to ask a lot of people, especially in today’s connected world that we live in, but I still have to have faith and trust in the system and the promises and the oaths that the judges take that they will do what they promise to do. And it’s not just me, it’s also the state of Nevada.”
Sanft doesn’t think Knight will be called as a witness at Davis’ trial as he has given many conflicting statements on the night Tupac was killed years ago.
Evidence from the case includes Davis’ confessions from years ago, as well as two separate recorded interviews with the Los Angeles Police Department’s gang squad and Las Vegas Metro Police from the early 2000s.
In both of these allegations, Davis, along with his ex-lawyer, admitted that he was the one who shot and killed, admitting that his nephew Orlando Anderson shot in the back of the car they were driving in Vegas.
Anderson was killed in a gang-related shooting in 1998.
“I’m here to win this case. We’re 100% invested in Keefe’s defense because I believe in him. And it’s not often you get a case where you believe in the defense. Sometimes you get a technical and say, ‘Yeah, yeah, maybe he did it.’ …He’s guilty here when I really believe that Keefe didn’t do what he said he did,” Sanft told The Post.
He added that his client, Davis, is a con man, who played his part in Tupac’s death in order to gain fame and fortune during his confession.
“I think Keefe knows I’m in his corner and I have a problem with pride here because I want to win this case and I want to do the best job I can for Keefe,” said Saft.
Davis’ trial is scheduled to begin on August 10.
