Warning: Spoilers below from season 13, episode 21 of Chicago PD
A runner Gwen Sigan you are only told Us Weekly that the “big cliffhanger” of Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) will send Shari (Selin CuhadarogluHe will go to prison for murder along with police officer Eva Imani (Arienne Mandi) will enter next season.
“We will definitely answer it next season with what they decided to do,” confirmed Sigan. “I love that no one else has all the information yet. It’s just these two. They’re in this wilderness making this decision.”
He quipped, “If they decide to do this, does that save anyone?” pointing out that Shari is “so disturbed at this point” that jail time or getting out of scott could all have major consequences.
“How is this young woman’s life after this? How can she heal if there is such a big secret? Sigan pondered. “So it’s interesting. We will answer it next season.”
On the Wednesday, May 13, finale, Imani and Voight hunt down Shari’s kidnapper, Russ Kirby (Lucas Caleb Rooney), who kidnapped Shari when she was 6 years old, while Imani tries to trigger Shari’s memories from their childhood.
Shari seems loyal to Kirby and did not accept Imani’s claim that they are sisters until Imani brought Shari to her house to show her the little things she had saved.
As Imani worked to bring Shari back to the light, Voight and the rest of the Spies were trying to find Kirby, who they believed stabbed to death a prostitute named Laura when she and Shari allegedly stole their Johns while under Kirby’s control.
It all came to a head during the second half of the episode, when Shari agreed to take Imani to Kirby’s hideout – but no one else would. Imani was blocked by Kirby and Shari was caught in the middle.
After Kirby realized that Imani was telling Shari that she was his sister, he yelled at Shari to kill Imani “like Laura,” revealing that Shari was the one who stabbed the woman, not him.
When Shari pointed the gun at Imani, Imani dropped it and tried to choke Shari into submission.

Arienne Mandi.
Elizabeth Sisson/NBCKirby briefly escaped, before Voight and the rest of the team stormed the building and Voight smashed Kirby’s head through the door, killing him in front of Shari.
Shari lost her sight after seeing the man she called her adoptive father – later her husband – die. Before they took him to the hospital for an examination, Imani found out that he had cut his wrists in an attempt to kill himself.
“I was never the person you thought I was. I was always his,” Shari said in the ambulance.
When Shari survives, her life changes forever – because of Kirby and because he’s an assassin. However, Voight only told Imani that he knew the truth about Shari stabbing Laura.
The episode ended with Imani asking Voight, “Is my sister going to be charged with murder?”
“We don’t know what’s going on,” said Mandi, 32, speaking to herself Us about Shari’s fate and how it will affect Imani’s life. “However, there will be a challenge [Imani’s] in her professional life as a police officer, it will challenge her as a sister.”
The actress admitted that “Imani’s moral compass is going to be turned inside out, upside down” no matter what Voight decides.
“It’s very difficult when your personal life intersects with your work,” Mandi explained, adding that “Imani’s whole purpose for being in Chicago, her whole life’s purpose for the last 20 years, has been to find your sister.”
Now that he has done that, it has become a “fake” for Imani and his work.
Sigan teased that there are many layers to go back with Shari and her story with Imani as her sister is not over yet.
“There’s a 6-year-old piece of her. Whether she remembers it or not, it lives in her, and her sister lives in her,” Sigan said of Shari. “The other part of her is the one that was raised by a man and was abused by this man, and the one that she lives in as well. … I think those two things conflict with each other.”
The host noted that the upcoming season has “so much” to play out, including learning who Shari is “besides those two things.”
“Who is she now that she is gone and who is her sister now that she has grown up?” 1778753124?” Sigan said Us. “I think it’s a really interesting question, and something we definitely have room to explore.”
Chicago PD returns for season 14 on NBC in the fall of 2026.
