The US military carried out a deadly strike on a suspected drug-trafficking vessel in the Eastern Pacific on Friday, killing two suspected drug terrorists, according to the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).

“On May 8, at the direction of #SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal strike against a vessel owned by Terrorist Terrorist Organizations,” SOUTHCOM said on the X site.

“Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was traveling on known drug trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in drug trafficking,” the document continued. “Two drug terrorists were killed during this action, one survived the strike.”

SOUTHCOM said it immediately notified the US Coast Guard to conduct a search for the survivor.

No American soldiers were injured, the military said.

SOUTHCOM did not immediately release any other information about those killed.

The U.S. military has carried out a number of strikes in recent months targeting suspected drug-trafficking vessels as part of a broader crackdown on cartel-related people-trafficking operations.

Friday’s strike follows a similar strike earlier this week. SOUTHCOM said it targeted the Eastern Pacific on Tuesday, killing three suspected drug terrorists, and conducted another strike in the Caribbean on Monday, killing two suspected drug smugglers.

The Eastern Pacific and Caribbean remain the main corridors for drug trafficking, as cartels often use small, fast-moving vessels to transport drugs to the US and Central America.
