Is Jenna Elfman Leaving Shifting Gears As Tim Allen Love Interest?

Deadline It was reported Tuesday, May 5, that Elfman, 54, has joined Fox The Investigator as a constant inverse series Stephen Fry, Luke Kleintank again Michael Beach. The project has already received a 12-episode and straight-to-series order

According to the synopsis, Fry will play former MI6 agent Conrad Henry.

“When conventional methods have failed, Henry’s eccentric charm, superior intelligence and mind-blowing moral tactics make him the only man capable of unlocking the minds of the world’s most dangerous criminals,” teases the description.

Elfman, meanwhile, will play Woodrow, “a former CIA star whose career is derailed by a plan gone wrong.”

“Now standing at DIA as Henry’s team leader, he views this position as a demotion — and the first step back,” reads his character’s bio. “He directs Henry’s charges, pushes him and often clashes with him; Conrad always walks seven paces, while Woodrow is rarely more than five. Still, the two respect each other in a brutal way that creates momentum, strangers.”

The actor’s new job has raised questions about his future at ABC Changing Gears. He was expected to return for season 3 after appearing in nine episodes while filming with AMC Dark Spirits.

TVLine has since reported that season 3 is still in development, so there are no official details on Elfman’s involvement yet.

During the season 2 finale, which aired in February, Matt (Allen) makes an effort to meet someone new after his breakup with Eva (Elfman) – by continuing with a traditional dating app. TradSwipe didn’t work out so well for Matt, who ended up having a disaster with Lynn (Angela Kinsey). He then has a chance encounter in a bar with Eve which encourages them to get back together following a shocking breakup.

“It had to be her. It really had to be Eva,” the runner Michelle Nader you are only told Us Weekly about the show’s longtime on-screen love interest Allen. “But we have a widower – played by Tim Allen after he was always married in his previous shows.”

Nader noted that there was no plan for Matt to be heavily involved in the dating scene, adding, “Tim’s not really a guy who would be comfortable dating a lot of women. Because obviously it’s going to be about family, you’re definitely going to date.”

Elfman has spoken to him before Us about returning to the show.

“I love doing this show. I love working with everyone on it. I love the producer. It’s like I’m waiting for the other shoe to come out because I can’t believe how good it is. I’m so excited for everyone to see it,” he said in September 2025. “I have to say I’m blown away by the writing this year because each actor is so good. It’s funny. Like, at work, we all laugh over and over again.

Elfman continued: “As an artist and as a person in the industry, I’m impressed with the way comedy is playing this year.
