KJ Apa ‘Criticizes’ Mr. Fantasy For Stealing His Picture

KJ Here you are legally old enough Mr. Fantasy.
I Riverdale the 28-year-old actor has long been suspected of being the TikTok artist who became a star who exploded last year, but according to Apa, this is all a case of identity theft.
“Something happened for a long time that I haven’t addressed because I didn’t think it was worth discussing, but now because of the way it has affected my life, I feel like I have to talk about it,” said Apa in an Instagram video on Wednesday, May 6. “I have to do it now because it’s hurting me and my work.”
Apa didn’t mention Fantasy by name but referred to the singer’s latest music video for “Do Me Right”, which featured several of Apa’s friends and colleagues, including some from the past. Riverdale costars Camila Mendes, Lili Reinhart again Madelaine Petsch.
“Recently there is a music video that has just been released involving a bunch of people who are very close to me about a guy who completely stole my image and misused my image and likeness,” Apa said in the video. “And I think we all know who we’re talking about, it sucks, it’s over because I just lost a big job and I can’t do a hard job anymore because people think I’m a joke because of this guy.
He continued, “I don’t know what to do about it other than bring it here and do everything I can to protect myself because it’s completely disrespectful and it’s totally wrong to do that.” [you are] which is completely wrong. I can’t just sit back and watch it happen and see my life, in fact everything I’ve worked so hard for, is now at a standstill because of this idiot. That’s all I have to say.”
Apa concluded in his video, “This person strives to be positive and kind and all these things … Look in the mirror and tell yourself you’re not a liar and a thief. Because that’s exactly what you are.”
In the comment section of Apa’s video, friends of the star he played once was overwhelmed with messages of condolence.
“Hello, I am very sorry that I agreed to do a music video with him,” he commented Zoey Deutch. “I didn’t know it affected your life in this way. Obviously I won’t be in contact with him anymore and I’m very upset about the whole thing. I hope you can accept my apology.”
“Point theft is not a joke,” he added Madelyn Cline.
Mr. Fantasy has yet to respond to Apa, but the singer – known for his black bob and, er, visible teeth – has previously played down the similarities between himself and Apa.
“I’m not bothered by it, I’m not bothered by it,” he said comparing them in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in November 2025. “Things bother me sometimes, but I keep my eyes up, and I keep walking on the happy path to a happy future. You know, things can be painful, sure, but I focus on the good. I focus on the people I love and who love me and who have a positive influence in my life, like James Franco.”
