Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s hospitalization is related to the ill effects of his heroism in New York City following the 9/11 terrorist attacks nearly 25 years ago, and the Republican hero’s condition appears to be improving, Fox News Digital said.
Giuliani was in the final year of his two-term presidency when terrorists hijacked planes and crashed them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, killing thousands. He was two blocks away when the first tower fell at 9:59 AM ET on that sunny Tuesday and felt the effects firsthand.

Giuliani spokesman Ted Goodman told Fox News Digital on Monday that the 81-year-old former mayor and former president is currently recovering from pneumonia and is being monitored at a Florida hospital “as a precaution.”
“On September 11, Mayor Giuliani rushed to the towers to help those in need, which led to a diagnosis of asthma,” Goodman said in a statement he later sent to X.

“This disease adds complications to any respiratory problems that arise, and the virus quickly overwhelmed his body, requiring ventilation to maintain his blood pressure.”
Sometimes called “World Trade Center Cough,” obstructive airways disease is a lung condition caused by inhaling highly alkaline dust from materials such as concrete, as well as asbestos and glass that was crushed when the towers collapsed and covered about one-fifth of Manhattan Island in some degree of dust-induced darkness.
Thousands of first responders have fought or died from the disease, prompting famous Tri-State figures like comedian Jon Stewart to publicly voice their cause.

Goodman said Monday that Giuliani was breathing on his own and had primary care providers by his side.
“Mayor Giuliani is a great fighter – as he has shown throughout his life – and he is winning this fight,” he said.
“His family greatly appreciates the outpouring of love and support. The mayor believes in the power of prayer, and we feel that power today. He is in critical but stable condition. Let the prayers continue.”
