Nashville Predators GM Search Heads Into Final Stages

How Far Are the Nashville Animals in Their GM Search?
Kyle Bukauskas asked Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast about where the Nashville Predators general manager search is at. Friedman noted that, although it may not be in its final stages, they are conducting personal interviews with people on the short list.

NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators Cut GM Reps
Kyle Bukauskas: “So the search has just begun for a new general manager, whatever that role is going to be in Toronto. The search has been going on in Nashville. Is there anything new you can add to the program with the Predators?”
Elliotte Friedman: “So I believe the Predators are in the middle of the process or they’re going to do an in-person interview. I don’t know if I’d call this the final stage of the process, but it’s definitely moved into the deep stage of the process.
My theory is that among the people they plan to interview in person are Bill Scott of Edmonton, Scott White of the Dallas Stars, Brett Peterson of the Florida Panthers. And I think that John Chayka is one of those who have been deeply involved in this process. So it’s exciting that Chayka has been talked about as a person of interest in Toronto and Nashville.
Mike Gillis was contacted by them. I don’t believe he will be the last one in this country. I always believe that there must be something I’m missing. I have wondered if Jeff Kelty, who is the assistant GM right now, would get a chance at an official interview. They mentioned that they might consider it, and a few people said that it might be possible, I don’t know. I will tell the truth.
NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators GM Search
I had heard that there was an agent who was part of this program, and I don’t believe there was ever an official interview, but I believe they reached out to gauge the interest of an agent named Matt Keator. Now, Matt Keator represented Zdeno Chara. He represents, among the current players, Adam Fox and Chris Kreider, Leo Carlsson.
I don’t know if I could be more eager to lose that commission. I will tell you that much. Good reminder, I love the commission I can get there. Yes, a great player. I don’t believe that went into the interview process, but I believe they reached out to gauge his interest.
And like I said, Matt is a sharp guy. I wrote this week, I think they asked Brandon Pridham for permission. But as far as I know, I think Bill Scott is serious. I think Scott White is serious. I think Brett, Brett Peterson deep down. I think John Chayka is serious. I’ve wondered about Kelty, and I suspect I’m missing someone.
NHL Rumors: Will the Detroit Red Wings Consider a General Manager Change?
But I always leave room for the possibility that I may have missed someone, as I said on the Nick And Justin show the other day, I’ve wondered about Tom Fitzgerald for this job, and the only reason I’ve wondered is the combination of the fact that there seems to be uncertainty in New Jersey, and he was their first captain.
Now, Fitzgerald had, I mean, that was 25 years ago. A lot of things happened during that time, but because he has management experience, and because I’ve talked to him about this in the past, how much he loved being the captain of that team. I’m sure if he was there, it would, it would make sense, in theory, guys, that maybe they’d like to talk to him.
He’s a guy with ties to Nashville, but right now he’s working in New Jersey, and I don’t know where that’s going to go.”
