Will Chris Pronger continue to take calls about open GM positions?

Chris Pronger Talks With NHL Teams About Open Positions

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Morning Skate with Gord Stellick and Scott Laughlin. There, he was asked about Chris Pronger and whether he would be interested in any open managerial positions around the NHL.

Writing for NHLRumors.com

Gord Stellick: “So the Toronto Maple Leaf situation, or 31 other situations. He’s a friend and colleague now, Chris Pronger, in our program, so we asked him, his name is there. He said he wasn’t asked by Toronto.

And the fans of the people are caught with catchy names, but there have been many, as we know, the Luc Robitalle’s of the world, the Jeff Jackson’s of the world, whether it’s the president or the general manager. What kind of action do you think he might get in this situation or other situations?”

Is Chris Pronger Interested In A Management Role Again?

Elliotte Friedman: “Yes, Gordy, as I have to say, I’ve always thought of Chris Pronger as a very talented person. I’ve always thought of him as an empty player that I loved to watch. And I always thought of him as a guy, that if I made a team, I would take him 100 times out of 100, but I never thought about him until now.” (laughs)

Stellick: (laughing) “Okay, delete that visual.”

Friedman: “I think Pronger was interviewed in Nashville. I’m going to put myself in trouble here. I don’t like the whole process of Nashville. It was like, interview might be the wrong word. They actually talked to him, I used the speech once, and someone said to me, it wasn’t an interview. It was like a meeting. Like, an interview, an informal introduction, an introduction and talking to Naville.

I don’t think he’ll be there, I don’t believe he’s one of the finalists, but they definitely spoke. And another thing I’ve learned about Keith Pelley, I’ve worked for Keith before, and I work with him now as a reporter, is that he takes meetings. Like, someone says, I’m going to meet you. If someone calls him and says, Keith, I’d like to meet you, he’ll listen. Like he’s not afraid to take a meeting, and he’s not afraid to sit down with someone and hear what they have to say.

It’s going to be an exciting first season of change for the Toronto Maple Leafs

So I won’t know if Chris is interested, and I’m with you, Gord, I have no doubt that he is. It wouldn’t surprise me if Pelley said, you know, I’d like to see what this guy is all about.”

NHLRumors.com Note: We know that the Nashville Predators have spoken to a number of candidates about their open positions. Pronger has been part of that process. No doubt he will talk to the Toronto Maple Leafs again. He’s a hot commodity, and there’s a reason his name is out there.
