Former prostitute manager Richard Hunter it provides unusual insight Lamar OdomA near-fatal drug overdose that resulted in six heart attacks and 12 strokes.
On Netflix Untold: The Death and Life of Lamar Odompremiered Tuesday, March 31, Hunter opened up about being an employee at the Love Ranch near Las Vegas when he caught wind of Odom, now 46, planning a visit in 2015 during his divorce from Odom. Khloé Kardashian.
“His management or someone contacted the body shop looking for a car to pick him up. Of course it was real when he gave him the address of where he was,” said Hunter. “The car went and took him.”
Hunter was working at a brothel the morning of Odom’s health problem.
“It was early Monday or Tuesday. It was a slow day. The Love Ranch had a separate house behind the brothel. If you spent enough money, we would put you in the house – and I knew Lamar was there,” he said. “He was there two days ago at that time. I was sitting at my desk, working and one of the girls he was with came running into my office, shouting.”
The room went “pitch black” when Hunter came in to help. Hunter said the first thing he noticed was how much Odom was snoring, which made him think “something is wrong” with the athlete.
“I am explaining to them [911] it means what’s going on.” “When I put him on his side, he just ran away. Fluid begins to flow from his mouth. He told one of the girls that he had taken cocaine before he came to the brothel. Now that would have been two days ago. “
Hunter continued: “The girl with him said, ‘Here you go,’ and held up the package.” [of sex enhancement pills]. I asked him how many he took, and he said about 12. I looked at the package and it said, ‘Do not take more than one every 24 hours.’
The supervisor helped three EMTs carry the 6-foot-10 Odom out, adding, “Because of his size, they couldn’t get him on a stretcher to wheel him out. So we had to pull the sheet that was on top of the bed, and each of those three guys took a corner. I looked down at his head and I just remember thinking, ‘This guy might be dead.’
Odom – who struggled with substance abuse for years – was left in a coma following an overdose at a legal facility in Crystal, Nevada. After this, Odom struggled to regain his ability to walk and talk while the owner of Love Ranch, Dennis Hof, used the incident as a way to score more points. (Hof died locally in 2018 at the age of 72.)
Later in the documentary, Hunter recalled a bidding war for items from Odom’s near-death experience.
“They wanted a receipt signed by Lamar where he paid $75,000 in advance. They also wanted the video,” he said. “A bidding war broke out, Denis gave it to today’s show [then-host] Matt Lauer he was sitting there and he said, ‘Joining us now is the owner of Love Ranch and the author of The Art of the Pimp, available in bookstores everywhere.’ If I didn’t know before, I knew after. In terms of what we would do or be willing to do to talk about it, there was no limit.”
