Savannah Guthrie Criticizes Mom Nancy’s Kidnapped Family Rumors

Savannah Guthrie he shut down rumors accusing his sister and brother-in-law of being involved in the kidnapping of his mother, Nancy Guthrie.
“[The FBI video was] absolutely terrifying. It’s really scary,” said Savannah, 54, while talking about the potential photo while sitting down Today‘s Hoda Kotbwhich aired on Thursday, March 26. “I don’t think that’s the one he saw standing on his bed.
Savannah expressed her gratitude to investigators and technology companies for “being able to get that video” as the search for her mother continues.
“Therefore, I hope that at least people with good hearts and compassion will stop the careless and cruel speculations that have started to spread,” he said. “I’m glad people saw what arrived at our door.”
When asked about speculation circulating online that Nancy’s captor could be a family member, Savannah added, “It’s unbearable and it’s just piling pain on top of pain.
He continued: “And no one took care of my mother better than my sister and my brother-in-law, no one protected my mother better than my brother, we love him and he is our light, he is our matriarch.”
Nancy, 84, was reported missing in Arizona in February. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has continued to provide case updates, more than 50 days into the search.
The FBI released photos last month of a masked man outside Nancy’s home who appeared to have a gun, but authorities have said no suspect has been identified. (Nanos has been told before Us Weekly (that Savannah’s sister, Annie, was the last person to see Nancy before she disappeared.)
“At this time, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives are continuing to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie,” the department’s statement read in February. “Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family, although we appreciate the public’s concern, sharing unsubstantiated allegations or false information is irresponsible and does not help the investigation.
The message concluded: “No suspect or person of interest has been identified at this time.”
Savannah and her siblings shared several statements asking for their mother’s safe return in the weeks since she disappeared. In a separate clip from her Today show interview, Savannah broke down in tears while talking about her mother.
“Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in pain,” he shared of the “unbearable” pain of waiting for answers. “And to think about what he went through. I wake up every night in the middle of the night. Every night. And in the dark, I think of his fear. And it’s unimaginable.”
