Arielle Konig Testifies in Husband’s Attempted Murder Trial

A year after surviving the alleged murder of her husband during a birthday trip to Hawaii, Arielle Konig testified against him in court during the trial.
Konig, 37, appeared before a judge on Tuesday, March 24, to testify about her husband, Gerhardt Konigaccused of trying to remove him from a cliff in Oahu, Hawaii. The couple was in Oahu at the time of the incident to celebrate Arielle’s birthday on March 24, 2025.
Arielle told the judge that she survived the attack after nearby pedestrians heard her screaming for help and called 911, according to a report aired by Court TV.
“I felt hopeful that this would be a turning point for us in our marriage, and that this would be a good journey and start the next chapter for us,” Arielle told the court about this journey.
He also recalled the details of the incidents that led to his attack when he testified. Arielle said that Gerhardt, 47, allegedly took her up a cliff. While they were climbing the mountain, he said he refused to climb because he was afraid of the climb.
Arielle went on to tell the court that she later took a picture with Gerhardt – who was working as a doctor in Maui – at the falls, which she said upset her. Then he asked Gerhardt to step aside to get off the edge.
As she started walking towards her husband, Arielle said Gerhardt grabbed her hands and said, “I’m done with this s**t” and “get back there.”
Gerhardt then climbed on top of him. “He first tried to pull me closer to the cliff,” said Arielle, adding that she then saw the syringe in his hand as he ordered her to “shut up.”
“F**k you, you’re done,” Gerhardt allegedly said as he grabbed her. “I’m so sick of your s**t.”
Arielle explained that she tried to stop Gerhardt from talking about their children. “Our children will be orphans,” she remembers telling him. “You will go to jail and I will be dead; our children need us.”
Then Gerhardt said, “You’re done, we don’t need any more.”
Arielle said Gerhardt seemed calm as he talked about their children. However, he said that he took a deep breath and started hitting him with stones.
Gerhardt allegedly stopped beating her after two hikers nearby heard Arielle’s calls for help and called 911.
Arielle appeared calm as she gave her testimony, although she cringed at one point when Gerhardt’s lawyer showed her the card he had given her the morning of the incident.
Meanwhile, Gerhardt was seen taking notes as Arielle testified.
Gerhardt was arrested one day after the incident and is charged with attempted murder. He denied the charges.
During opening statements, Gerhardt’s attorney, Thomas Otakehe said his client was falsely accused of attempted murder. He revealed that Arielle started an “unplanned, unexpected argument” when they argued about her past relationship.
However, Arielle said that in this dispute, she will not consider it as a “dispute.”
“I think [a] a scuffle to be like back and forth, like a wrestling thing,” he said.
