Zendaya’s Euphoria Season 3 Comments Spark Anxiety

We’re less than a month away from HBO’s highly anticipated third season Euphoria. Although you could be forgiven for not knowing that, because no one talks about it – not even the stars of the show.
To refresh your mind immediately, the first season of Euphoria premiered in the summer of 2019 to rave reviews and later earned Zendaya her first Emmy for her portrayal of Rue Bennett, a teenager recovering from drug addiction.
The second season premiered in 2022 and, despite all the hype, was not well received by critics. But the viewing figures were still incredibly high, and Zendaya nabbed another Emmy for her performance, too.
A third season was confirmed for early 2022 while Season 2 was still airing, and in the four years since, there has been considerable doubt as to whether it will happen due to widespread reports of behind-the-scenes drama — including rumors of a feud between Zendaya and the show’s creator, Sam Levinson.
In context, Zendaya wasn’t just the star of Euphoria but he is also a great producer. He and Sam were very close, especially working together on a 2020 Netflix indie film Malcolm & Marie. However, a 2024 reveal by The Hollywood Reporter stated that their relationship began to deteriorate when Sam was caught off guard on his other HBO show, The Idol.
As you may recall, The Idol it was quite a disaster. It aired in June 2023 to widespread criticism and was canceled after only one season. Around this time, Rolling Stone published an exposé of Sam’s allegedly chaotic composition process while making the show, lamenting that it “went in a disgusting, off-the-rails fashion.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, it was Idol scandal that caused a rift between Zendaya and Sam, who reportedly felt uncomfortable with how her “clean” reputation could be tarnished by her association with him. “From being close, they can fix it,” said the source.
However, somewhere down the line, Z and Sam were apparently able to put their “creative issues” aside to begin work on the long-awaited third season Euphoriawhich started shooting in 2025 after years of delays.
The trailer for Season 3 finally dropped in January of this year, giving fans their first look at the characters they know after a five-year jump in the story. You can watch it here.
What is interesting, however, is that EuphoriaThe main cast has been suspiciously quiet and unenthusiastic about the show’s return. In a Variety interview in December, Jacob Elordi expressed concern that it wouldn’t be too “good,” and Zendaya hasn’t seen season 3 on social media, which is very unusual for her, especially compared to how she promoted the first two seasons of the show.
The good news is that, back in January, fans noticed that Zendaya’s name was not on the list of the group’s main producers. Euphoria Season 3 on the Warner Bros. website. Discovery. He has not commented publicly on this. (And yes, that’s who Drake thinks he is.)
Suffice it to say, all of this doesn’t give people high hopes for what Season 3 might bring. And with only a few weeks left to wait, Zendaya gave a rare comment about Euphoria on the red carpet of his new movie, Drama.
Speaking to Variety, Zendaya was asked what fans should “expect” from the new series, prompting her to reveal that she actually only “saw a little” of the new series. “Well, there’s—oh gosh. It was a whirlwind,” he said, discussing last year’s intense shooting. “I did what I usually do in eight months in four months, so…
“It just flew by me, but, yes, I’m happy,” he concluded. “I hope it goes well.”
Granted he said he didn’t watch much of the series, that comment didn’t tell us all that much – and it freaked people out a bit. One Reddit user commented that he “talks like he has a guest star” on the show, while another person speculated that “it sounds like people are washing their hands of this show in a very polite way.”
Zendaya’s latest interview comes less than a week after Labrinth, who recapped Seasons 1 and 2. Euphoriaposted and deleted a cryptic Instagram statement blasting the TV series.
Reacting to this on Reddit, one user wrote: “This is not good at all. EuphoriaThe soundtrack has to be up there and one of the best when it comes to TV shows. Everything I have heard and seen about it Euphoria season 3 looks awful. It looks bleak.”
Well, we’ll have to wait and see. Euphoria Season 3 premieres on HBO and Max on Sunday, April 12.
