Katey Sagal Makes Stumble Debut in Last Time’s Amazing Role

Stumbling pulls out another surprise with Katey Sagal joining the show in an important role.
Us Weekly can exclusively confirm that Sagal, 72, appears in the season finale, which airs Friday, March 13. Sagal portrays Courteney’s Marg Hargberg (Jenn Lyon) was a coach who influenced the way he taught cheerleading.
In Us‘ exclusive clip from Friday’s episode, Courteney accidentally ran into Marg at College Nationals.
“I can’t believe my old coach is here. Marg used to yell at me and say mean things about my legs. She gave me PTSD,” Courteney said. “For years, if I was close enough to smell his ointment, my right arm would die.”
Courteney explains to the cemetery that she is improving, adding, “I’m a grown woman and very successful now. Now why don’t we go say hello. Come on, it’s a classy thing to do.”
The reunion doesn’t go exactly as planned when Marg makes fun of Courteney’s “weird legs” that are “too big to fly, too small to take off.” Courteney backs that her legs are “the right size to train” as she aims to get her 15th trophy.

“Oh, I’ll be the judge of that. I’m not on your team anymore,” Marge scoffed. “I am one of the judges of this competition.”
Courteney doesn’t process the information well, adding, “Are you kidding me now? Marg Hargberg had to crawl out of a hole to come and judge my team. … You know what else? I love my legs. My friends love my legs. In fact, one time I was on the bus and an old gentleman told me to just stop. So these old legs can’t bring old legs – they have to bring out old legs. Someone he never saw you.”
Stumble is a mockumentary that explores the highly competitive world of junior college cheerleading. The cast consists of Lyon, Georgie Murphy, Arianna Davis, Kristin Chenoweth again Taran Killam. Ryan Pinkston, Jarrett Austin Brown, Anissa Borrego again Taylor Dunbar and star in the show.
The series is inspired by the Netflix hit Be happy and Navarro College coach Monica Aldamawho is the main producer on the project.
“Monica is on the page. The writers created a smart character for her to play, but she was inspired by Monica,” Lyon said exclusively. Us in November 2025 about bringing his role to life. “He’s tough as nails and unreadable. But the way he’s tough but loving, the way he gives you the shirt off his back, the way he’s driven and committed to the character’s DNA.”
Lyon noted that Courtney is “different” from Aldama.
“She has characteristics of Monica, but reading her on the page and working with the writers, creators and director, we showed how we wanted Courtney to be – including her level of warmth and melancholy,” Lyon teased. “I like to trip over things on the ground. I like to roll over the door. These are things Monica doesn’t do.”
Stumbling airs on NBC Fridays at 8:30 pm ET.
