Jai Opetaia defeats Brandon Glanton, Wins the Zuffa Cruiserweight Title

Opetaia started cautiously, circling and measuring distance with a jab during the opening rounds. Glanton pressed forward, trying to close the gap and force exchanges, but Opetaia kept him turning and picking up his spots with straight left hands.
As the battle progressed, Opetaia increased the speed of its attacks. He mixed sharp jabs with straight lefts and landed combinations when Glanton squared up while advancing. Glanton kept marching forward, but struggled to get a clean shot from range.
In the middle rounds the fight changed to close quarters. Opetaia stood up and used short hooks and sharp uppercuts inside. The American continued to apply pressure but held a clean performance.
The sixth round brought a disqualification to Glanton for overhandling, a call that came during a tough fight in which both men were leaning and hitting hard. In the eighth round Glanton was punished again, this time with low blows.
Despite the draw, Glanton remained aggressive and continued to push forward, looking to force Opetaia to trade in a sustainable manner. Opetaia responded by increasing his work rate, letting his hands flow with straight lefts, hooks, and uppercuts whenever Glanton closed the distance.
The Australian punch selection began to split the fight in the later rounds. He used a jab to gain distance, then went in with a left back to finish combinations. A point was taken from Opetaia in the 11th round for a hold during a close exchange, but it had little effect on the scorecards.
In the final round Opetaia landed his best shot of the night, a straight left that clipped Glanton’s head and briefly rocked him. Glanton held his own and reached the final bell, but the result was clear for a long time.
For twelve rounds, Opetaia went the distance, landed sharp punches, and maintained a high work rate. The victory secured Opetaia both the Ring and Zuffa cruiserweight titles after he claimed the fight with a sharp jab, clean straight left hands, and solid combinations.
