Instagram/@amyschumerRumors began to surface in November 2025 that Schumer and Fischer were going to divorce. (The two sold their Brooklyn, New York, townhouse for a reported $11 million that month.) Still, Schumer sang to her fiance in early December of that year while contemplating her own 2021 endometriosis surgery.
(According to the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is a chronic medical condition in which cells similar to the lining of the uterus grow outside the uterus, often leading to chronic pain, irregular periods, infertility and more.)
“I just discovered this years ago. My confidence. Chris digs,” Schumer wrote on Instagram at the time, citing a throwback video. “I’ve been through a lot with endometriosis. Tell someone you love they don’t have to have such a hard time. @endofound donate with me today.”
Hours later, Schumer announced the split.
“Amy still loves Chris, just not romantically. He’s a great guy and an even better dad,” the source said. Us at the time, adding that “there was no big, shameful reason for their separation.”
“It just happened slowly over time, and they admitted that their relationship is not what it used to be,” the insider continued.
The source added that the estranged duo had been “looking at” what their split would look like for “months,” especially in relation to their son.
“The aim is to make it easier for them to change so that they don’t disturb their son every day,” explained the insider. “One of the many things that Gene sees first and foremost is his happiness.”
Despite the big change in life, the source also told Us that Schumer — who recently revealed her 50-pound weight loss — is “in a good place and joking about their breakup,” adding that “it’s been an easy adjustment so far.”
