‘Industry’s Myha’la and Marisa Abela spill Harper and Yasmin’s devastating Season 4 goodbye

With one exciting episode of IndustryHarper Stern (Myha’la) and Yasmin Kara-Hanani (Marisa Abela) were peaceful. After Tender falls in Season 4, episode 7, they kiss, kiss, and dream that they will be in this state of bliss “forever.”
It turns out that their “forever” doesn’t last until the end of Season 4.
The ‘Myha’la of the industry and Marisa Abela break Harper and Yasmin’s heart (and that kiss)
It is because IndustryThe Season 4 finale, titled “Both, Again,” turns on Harper and Yasmin’s strained relationship like a wrecking ball, ripping apart the show’s central pair as convincingly as possible.
As Tender’s collapse continues, Yasmin embarks on a new venture: supporting right-wing Reform candidate Sebastian Stefanowicz (Edward Holcroft). He’s hosting a fancy dinner party for patrons in Paris, and he’s invited Harper.
Harper’s date Kwabena Bannerman (Toheeb Jimoh) sees red flags immediately, noting that she heard stories from a friend about Yasmin being a “sadist” at school. Harper brushes them off, insisting that Yasmin is a “survivor,” and all but affirms that the context of their relationship has made them inseparable.

But even Harper and Yasmin’s longtime connection has its limits, and Harper comes against them during the party itself. Yasmin sitting Harper next to full-on Nazis is already enough to tear apart a friendship, but Harper realizes that Yasmin is interviewing her male and female guests, most of whom are probably under-age, and that she’ll be recording them as a line drop. A page straight out of the Whitney Halberstram (Max Minghella) playbook, which feels very tied to the real-world machinations of Jeffrey Epstein. (The character of Yasmin was also “liberally inspired” by Ghislaine Maxwell, furthering the dirty connections to current events.)
The party marks Harper’s sad realization that his friend has passed beyond the pale, but he continues to offer ways to live, telling her, “That’s not who you are.”

His last one? Standing up, he extended his hand, relying on the history he and Yasmin shared, saying, “If you didn’t care about me, you would take my hand.”
Yasmin does, but chooses to stay anyway. It mirrors his own “both, one” philosophy: He can care about Harper, but he can also care about himself. For Myha’la, that moment reinforces the “grief” of the episode.
“You know Yasmin will take care of Yasmin by any means necessary, just like Harper will take care of Harper by any means necessary,” Myha’la told Mashable in her video interview with Abela. “The sad thing is that they will not do it together. Like in the club [episode] 7, they take care of each other. Harper really hopes to extend that and say, ‘Let’s face whatever this is all about.’ And it sounds like Yasmin takes his hand and says, ‘I love you, but I’ll take care of myself this time.’
For Abela, Yasmin’s act of inviting Harper was also helpful, albeit for her.
“Yasmin invited Harper to this space to face the truth of what she is doing,” said Abela. “I think maybe there’s a part of her that hopes Harper will be able to see it, call it for what it is, and break some kind of spell. And I think at that moment, Yasmin realizes she’s in too deep.”
As Yasmin changes completely from her father, and Harper loses the people she was closest to, Industry widen the gap between the two as much as possible. I wouldn’t count out a potential reunion in Season 5, as the pair have reunited after some rough times before, including the Season 3 “Nikki Beach” fight. But Yasmin’s actions here seem invincible.
At least they will always have that little piece of eternity.
Industry Season 4 is now streaming on HBO Max.
