Where to find the cheapest gas in California

Californians have been suffering from severe pain at the pump while enduring some of the highest electricity prices in the nation.
The average price of a gallon of regular gas in the Golden State reached $5.483 on Saturday, about 40 cents more than last week and more than 90 cents more than last month, according to the American Automobile Association.
The Iran war has added sky-high prices only to the state, where drivers already pay a “California fee” loaded with higher-than-average state property and sales taxes, as well as huge costs for the state’s unique climate programs.
But for drivers willing to be creative, relief can be found in other channels – if they know where to look.
Los Angeles area
While Los Angeles doesn’t have the most expensive gas on average in California, it does hold some of the worst prices.
Last weekend, a downtown LA Chevron station was selling gas for $8.21 a gallon, with one driver spending $107 to fill up.
For affordable rates, motorists need to go to the Burbank/Glendale area or around Orange County.
These are the cheapest gas stations in the LA area, according to crowdsourcing site GasBuddy.
- $4.29 per gallon, G&M at 2501 W. Olive Ave. in Burbank
- $4.59 per gallon, Shell at 7280 Rosemead Blvd. in San Gabriel
- $4.69 per gallon, Speedway Express at 20055 Vanowen St. in Winnetka
I San Diego area
San Diegans don’t have to travel as far as drivers in other California cities to find affordable options.
Most of the cheapest local gas is found in the eastern San Diego County cities of La Mesa and El Cajon.
- $4.59, Speedway & Shell at 7594 University Ave in La Mesa
- $4.69, Sycuan Market at 4915 Dehesa Rd. in El Cajon
- $4.77, Highway Fuel at 596 N. Mollison Ave. in El Cajon
I The Bay Area
All of the cheapest gas is beyond the San Francisco city limits, mostly concentrated in Fremont and Hayward.
Very few gas stations are under $5 per gallon in the Bay Area, which has the most expensive gas prices in the state.
San Rafael, Napa and San Francisco counties, the most expensive gas counties in the state, all hover around $5.66 per gallon.
Here are three of the cheapest stations in the Bay Area:
- $4.69, Arco at 5012 Stevenson Blvd. in Fremont
- $4.79, Star Gas at 43411 Grimmer Blvd. in Fremont
- $4.79, 43250 Grimmer Blvd. in Fremont
Motorists can find even cheaper gas by heading north to Redding, where two stations are reportedly selling for $3.99 a gallon, making it the cheapest in the state, according to GasBuddy.
