What should you wear to the Masters? A women’s guide

If you’ve never set foot in the hallowed grounds of Augusta National, the event can feel overwhelming. Not only is Augusta one of the most famous and prestigious courses in the world, but the Masters is also a community event like no other – a place to see and be seen, with golf in between.
For those lucky enough to attend the tournament, one question often looms large: What should I wear? It is an important question that deserves careful consideration.
Attending as a security guard is a little different than attending as a member of the media. When you work, you need to be comfortable and professional, right? Fortunately, golf and athletic wear have come so far that you can tick those boxes with a certain style. At the Masters, I like to go slower than other events.
It’s been a while since I’ve personally attended the Masters, though, so I reached out to my colleague Maddi MacClurg for some guidance. Below, you can read our thoughts on the best way to dress for the Masters, and check out some links to things that could be at home on the streets of Augusta.
Top recommendations for putting together a Masters-ready ensemble
Do’s and Don’ts by Maddi MacClurg
Do: Dress in layers. The weather at Augusta National can turn on a dime – a cool morning breeze can give way to a hot afternoon, or a shower in the afternoon. It’s normal so patrons can experience multiple seasons in one day – especially if you arrive early to secure your Masters Gnome. Therefore, it pays to be ready to add or discard a layer as soon as possible.
Don’t do it afraid to dress to impress. The Masters is as much a show of style as it is a major golf event, with many sponsors treating every day as a chance to come out on top on Sunday. While there’s no dress code that requires you to dress up, sticking to a sharp, spring-ready look is part of the fun.
To be green or not?
Maddi: Absolutely! Green is the Masters’ signature color, so it’s a natural choice. But don’t be afraid to add pops of other Augusta National colors, like yellow and pink. Pastels work too, and will help nail the spring vibes.
Jessica: I agree, Maddi. It’s really nice to lean on green, and many brands know this and have created special collections of clothing inspired by Professionals to make it easier.
What pieces are you looking for in this year’s show?
Maddi: Right now, I’m all about finding unique, playful accessories. A statement bag, a printed headband, or a sparkly, statement scarf can elevate an already beautiful outfit — especially if you love the monochrome look like I do. Visors have also become my new favorite. Not only do they keep the sun off your face, but the right ones can feel amazing — like the finishing touch that ties your entire outfit together.
Jessica: Golf brands specialize in clothing that looks good and works well on the course, so if you go this route, there’s no doubt you’ll be comfortable. But it’s okay to get your clothes outside of the golf world, too. At last week’s Ford Tournament, one of my LPGA media friends tipped me off to this Anthropologie dress, which he plans to wear on site at Augusta. He said it’s a player agent favorite, too, and it’s easy to see why: it’s organized, comfortable and polished. Here are some of my favorite looks right now:
Somerset Maxi Dress
I was surprised to find that this dress is a popular silhouette with many different print options. I love the sleeves, the length and the tapered waist.
Puma golf shirt
Puma Women’s 30904 Sleeveless Golf Dress
This one is for sporty girls! Easy to wear and super comfortable with a fun green stripe.
Johnnie-O’s jersey
Johnnie-O Bridget Dress Dyed Crewneck Sweater
You’ll find all shades of green onsite at Augusta, and I love the color and texture of this jersey.
A golf outfit
Addison Bay Smooth Sport Fairway Active Dress
This dress looks great in green and white, and the print is also available separately and with a matching windbreaker.
Rugby jersey polo
G/FORE Rugby Merino Wool Sweater Polo
Rugby stripes are on trend, and I love the accent stripe collar on this cool sweater from G/FORE.
Goldie’s dress
This dress has a winning retro vibe and is available in a number of other solid colors.
The direction of the shoese
Jessica: Sandals are cute, but they have the potential to not only hurt your feet but also get incredibly dirty – especially when it’s raining. Open styles can be very dangerous. Even if you choose to wear a dress or a skirt, I think stylish sneakers are the answer.
Maddi: If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a dozen times – and for good reason. Augusta National’s terrain is more demanding than it looks, and the wrong shoes can leave you dealing with blisters before the afternoon teams take off. Plan to wear comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty from the elements of the course.
Here are a few shoes I like for the Masters:
Veja sneakers
Veja Exclusive Volley Sneakers
These shoes are a representation of Augusta National’s Azaleas, with their pops of green. The vintage-inspired wing detailing is a nod to an earlier era of the game, when legends like Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Lee Trevino paired it with classic brogue-style spikes.
Espadrilles
TOMS Valencia Platform Espadrille (Women’s)
Espadrilles of any kind will always go with a light linen or cotton dress on a hot, spring day at school. That said, if you’re planning on walking throughout school, you’d be better off opting for a slip-on or Mary Jane style like this one for more comfort and ease.
Adidas golf shoes
Adidas Gazelle Spikeless Golf Shoes
Whether you’re hitting the 18th or strolling across the clubhouse deck with an Azalea in hand, these spikeless, sneaker-style golf shoes are perfect for on-the-go. Comfortable and practical, its extra traction comes in handy on slippery grass—and with many beautiful colors, you can show off your personal style.
Cole Haan loafers
Cole Haan Women’s Danby Travel Loafers
Loafers are always a classic at the Masters – and for good reason. They strike that perfect balance between polished and functional. Whether you opt for a sleek leather pair or something with a little more personality, loafers will easily elevate any outfit while still being able to keep up with you as you stroll the grounds of Augusta National.
