USA Olympians Madison Chock and Evan Bates Bemoan Missing Gold

Team USA Olympic ice dancers Madison Chock again Evan Bates they looked sad after winning the silver medal in the individual skating event.
“As soon as we [finished] our program, we were very happy,” Chock, 33, told NBC Sports after the Wednesday, February 12, contest.
Chock and Bates, 36, led Team USA to a gold medal in the team event earlier this month. They eventually finished second in the individual ice dancing competition behind the French duo Guillaume Cizeron again Laurence Fournier Beaudrywho started skating together in 2025. (Piper Gilles again Paul Poirierrepresenting Team Canada, finished the field in third place.)
“This is really painful,” Chock said through tears on Wednesday.
Chock has been skiing with her husband, whom she married in 2024, for decades. Wednesday’s podium marked the first time Chock and Bates have won a single Olympic medal in ice dancing.
“[I’m] “I’m so proud,” Bates said emotionally on NBC after the award ceremony. We were very qualified in Milan four times, too [I am] I’m proud of that. We are lucky to do this, and we will never forget that.”
Chock and Bates were devastated when they saw the technical scores of Cizeron and Fournier Beaudry that pushed them out for the gold medal.

WANG ZHAO / AFP“To be honest, it’s a little disappointing,” Bates admitted. “We skated really well, and we’re really close. It’s like you said, it’s something we’ve wanted for years. Sometimes in life, it feels like you’re doing everything right and it’s not going your way, and that’s life and that’s sport.”
He concluded by saying, “We are very lucky to be doing this [at] four Olympics [and earn] three Olympic medals, and we’re married so we’ll be fine. We will return home, and we will be healthy.”
Chock, on the other hand, insisted that he and Bates are strong enough to overcome a minor defeat.
“We are always stronger than we think,” said Chock. “We can do hard things, we can overcome anything – and we have succeeded in many ways.”
When the pro skaters return home from Milan, they will return to their everyday lives off the ice.
“Our day-to-day life is very similar, if not completely different from the training and routine we’ve been used to over the years,” Chock said to himself. Us Weekly in January. “After we got married there was a change in our emotional connection and attraction to each other. It’s definitely stronger. It’s more about our love and commitment to each other, and our commitment to wanting to continue to improve as people move forward and be the best partners we can be to each other.”
Chock and Bates’ married life also includes their two poodles, Henry and Stella.
“Henry and Stella are a big part of our lives,” Chock said Us. “Skiing is a big part, but Henry and Stella are with us.” They really are a part of our whole day. [The dogs] walk with us to the rink every day.”
