Benedict, Sophie’s Steamiest Bridgerton Season 4 Scenes After Mistress Backlash

Based on Julia Quinnthe third novel A Donation From the Rightseason 4 focuses on Benedict (Luke Thompson) love story with Sophie (Yerin Ha) when his world is turned upside down after he crosses paths with a mysterious woman in a beautiful Cinderella-inspired play.
Fans of the books knew that the season would culminate in an offering from Benedict to Sophie, who is the showrunner. Jess Brownell it was protected after a backlash from fans.
“At the time, it wasn’t unreasonable for Benedict to think this was a fair question,” Brownell said. TVLine in February 2026 about Benedict asking Sophie to be his wife while admitting it was “a big mistake Benedict made.”
Brownell acknowledged that viewers drawn to fairy-tale romance may not be happy, adding, “He has to see Sophie as above her class. For him to question that moment, outrage is a really appropriate reaction.”
Brownell went on to explain why the character reverts to traditional values when it comes to finding a wife.
“A lot of her progress, not in her sexuality, but in other ways, has been successful,” he said. “He’s incredibly lucky and he hasn’t earned that privilege yet. He’s really enjoyed life, but he’s never done anything really scary.”
