Tiger Woods will make a surprise return in the TGL finals on Tuesday

Tiger Woods will make a surprise return to competitive golf on Tuesday, according to TGL and ESPN. The 15-time major champion will play for his Jupiter Links TGL team on Tuesday night.
It will be Tiger’s first TGL game this year, and it will come on the final night of the season as his team tries to avoid a crushing defeat in the finals.
Tiger Woods’ comeback: What you need to know
Jupiter Links faced Los Angeles Golf Club on Monday night in the first round of the TGL finals. While it was a close contest throughout the night, Los Angeles pulled out the win on the final hole when LA’s Sahith Theegala got a birdie and Jupiter’s Kevin Kisner failed to reach the green in regulation.
Woods, who was in the game on Monday as a coach and supporter of his teammates, said this after the defeat.
“I felt bad for them. As a team, we were in this together, all together, and it was close. We had our chances; they had their chances. We were rolling in the middle of the 9th, and we got to the last hole. We’ve been there. We’ve been in the playoffs, and this was a long way from there.”

He continued: “Unfortunately it didn’t happen, but we might have two more games.
“I feel pretty good—to be honest with you after losing the last hole. Mainly because of the distance at the TGL, I’m 8 balls behind early,” Kisner complained after the match Monday night. “It’s a great team. I’m enjoying it. I’m really excited to compete and I can’t wait to try and beat them tomorrow.”
But it turns out Kisner won’t play Tuesday night. Woods will take his place, although that was not revealed until after Jupiter’s press conference.
Tiger will join Jupiter teammates Max Homa and Tom Kim as they try to stay alive by winning Match 2 of the finals on Tuesday night at 7 pm ET. on ESPN. That will force a crucial third game at 9 pm ET for the tournament.
When was the last time Tiger Woods played competitive golf?
News of Tiger’s TGL comeback is significant because he hasn’t played competitive golf anywhere, including the TGL, in over a year.
Although Woods has been a regular at TGL games this season coaching his team, he has never played in one. He is still recovering from major back surgery he underwent last year.
Woods’ last appearance playing golf was in the final TGL match for Jupiter last time season on March 4, 2025. That was the final regular season game for the Jupiters, as they did not make the playoffs in the first TGL season.
One week later, Woods announced that he would tear his Achilles while preparing to return to the 2025 Masters. He missed the entire 2025 season as a result.
Woods played in the PNC Championship alongside his son Charlie in December 2024. But the last time Woods played in an official golf tournament was almost two years ago at the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon.
What does Tiger’s TGL news mean for the return of the Masters?
The real question everyone wants to know is when Woods will return to pro golf. For a long time now, the most obvious tournament was the 2026 Masters. The Masters is now two weeks away, so the only remaining question is whether Tiger will be fully recovered and ready to play by then.
Woods’ decision to play in the TGL final on Tuesday night is a good sign that he feels ready to play the Masters. But he has been shy about confirming his return all year.
At the Genesis Invitational in February, Woods said he was trying to get back into competitive golf and the Masters was not off the table.

“It’s one of those things where every day, I keep trying, I keep trying, I keep working on it, I’m trying to get stronger, I’m trying to get more endurance in this body and I’m trying to get it to a level where I can play at a high level again,” Woods said at the time.
He also commented on his return to previous TGL games this year. When asked if he feels healthy enough to return in early March, Woods teased that if he’s playing in a member’s guest event, then he’s “good to go.”
But last week, Woods sounded less confident that he would be ready for Augusta when asked after a separate TGL match.
“I said I was working on it,” Woods said. “Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days. Disc replacement is not a very pleasant thing. So Will Zalatoris went through it, he did two levels, and it takes time. So, like I said, I had a lot of procedures before that, so that the body doesn’t heal like it was when I was 24. It doesn’t go back, so I have some good days where I can walk and I can move around..”
The 2026 Masters officially begins on Thursday, April 9, at Augusta National Golf Club.
