Terminal Man Drives from Arizona to Alaska to Kill Ex-Wife

After the comedian and owner of the comedy club Matthew Becker diagnosed with terminal cancer, he traveled thousands of miles from Arizona to Alaska to try to kill his ex-wife. This incident ended with the wife’s father being killed, Becker also died.
Becker, 61, was charged with murder and third-degree assault after attacking his ex-wife and ex-father-in-law, Romaine Clarkduring the shooting in Anchorage, Alaska, on Saturday, March 14.
The Anchorage Police Department said Becker was found dead one day in the “woods” of Eagle River, according to a police statement.
It is not yet clear how Becker died. His brother said that he recently found out that he has terminal cancer, according to Arizona family. However, it is not clear how long it took before he was shot to learn of his diagnosis.
Becker’s attempts to kill his ex-wife are detailed in a criminal complaint obtained by KTUU. The complaint said the woman called Anchorage Police and said Becker “just tried to shoot her.”
By the time police arrived at the scene, Becker had fled.
The ex-wife told police that she arrived at her salon and parked her car in front of the business, and Becker was in a car parked next to her.
“[The woman] advised that he should first go to the door of the building to open the door,” said the complaint.” “As he passed the Silver Altima, he saw the driver, Becker, sitting in the driver’s seat. [The woman] she said she didn’t know her ex-husband was in the situation since he moved to Arizona after their divorce. “
The woman tried to open the door of the salon, “but she believed that it had been tampered with because her key did not fit in the lock.” The complaint then states that Becker got out of his car and started walking toward him.
“As Becker approached him, he backed away,” the complaint states. “Becker used a gun and started shooting at him several times as he ran away from him in fear of losing his life.”
The woman ran away and hid until Becker left. After he left, he called the police to report what had happened. She told police she was worried about her father and believed he might be targeted. Police then went to look for Clark, who was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police believe Becker went straight to his ex-wife’s house after confronting her at the salon, which is when he may have shot Clark through the glass window outside the home.
Becker’s brother said he moved to Arizona after the couple divorced in 2020, according to KTUU. He owned a comedy club called the Chuckleheads in Bisbee, when he seemed to do well at the club.
The Anchorage Police Department did not immediately respond Us Weeklyrequest for comment.
