Stephen A. Smith said on Wednesday’s episode of “The Sage Steele Show” that he regrets voting for former Vice President Kamala Harris, telling Sage Steele that he initially believed Harris could serve anywhere before concluding Democrats don’t understand why he lost.
Steele asked Smith about his comments before the 2024 election on Dave Rubin’s show about voting for former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“You went on your show, and you said you voted for Kamala Harris?” he asked.
“Yes,” Smith replied.

Steele then added, “And he’s sorry,” to which Smith replied, “Yes.”
Smith continued to explain that he voted because he believed that Harris was able to compromise, but he later concluded that the Democrats did not understand why they were defeated.
“I also believed that he was the type of person … who could work in any area,” Smith said. “And when I saw how things turned out and that the Democratic Party was out of the clouds even after they lost the election, I just said, ‘There is no hope.’
He added, “I said, ‘I don’t know what the hell I was thinking believing you all would get it, because you still haven’t.’
Smith repeatedly framed his decision through the lens of how government should work. He told Steele he was “totally opposed to one-party rule” and said he preferred a divided government, with one party in the White House and the other controlling at least one chamber of Congress.

However, Smith said he still views Harris as someone Congress can push for consensus-driven governance, unlike President Donald Trump, whom he described as a unique force and difficult to contain.
“I knew they would be able to force him to do that,” he said of Congress. “What will make the American people feel comfortable with any decision that is made because we understand that things are done in a consensual way.”
“Trump was the last one,” he said. “Trump was different from that. I was uncomfortable with that because he is.”
Smith added that if the Republicans had nominated someone else, his vote might have been different.

“If it was Marco Rubio in the middle, I would have voted for Marco Rubio in a heartbeat,” he said. “I would vote for Nikki Haley in a heartbeat without question.”
Steele challenged Smith on why he was so critical of Democrats after the election if he still voted for Harris in November. Smith backtracked, saying he had long publicly warned that Biden should step aside.
“Who was the person who went on the air a year and a half ago and said we need a new president. Biden has to go. That was me,” said Smith.

After Steele said there was still a “pull” for Smith to represent the “Black community” and his family, Smith responded, “That’s OK,” adding, “People have to be able to admit that that pull is there. It’s human.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Harris for comment, but he did not immediately respond.
