Stefon Diggs Breaks the Silence on Patriots Release

Stephen Diggs broke his silence on his impending release from the New England Patriots.

“THANKS for a great year,” Diggs, 32, wrote on his Instagram Story on Wednesday, March 4. “We are family forever @patriots … Until we meet again.”

Earlier Wednesday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero The X reported that Patriots management has informed Diggs that they plan to release him “after the start of the regular season next week.”

“Stefon Diggs had another $6 million that will be fully guaranteed next week on Friday,” Pelissero, 44, later reported. “The Patriots did not want to drag him and told him that today they are continuing, they gave him a chance, he will be released next Wednesday. [March 11].”

According to the NFL, the Patriots’ decision to cut Diggs was “financially motivated” due to the length of his fully guaranteed contract. The Patriots have not yet commented on the release.

Diggs signed a three-year, $63.5 million contract with the New England Patriots through March 2025 and helped lead the team to Super Bowl LX last month, where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks. Despite a disappointing end to the season, Diggs led the Patriots in receiving yards while hauling in 1,013 yards on 85 receptions and four touchdowns.

The Patriots first took issue with Diggs in December 2025 when he was charged with strangulation and assault and battery for an alleged altercation with a private chef. (The chef alleged that a dispute over pay turned violent earlier that month.)

“The New England Patriots are aware of the allegations made against Stefon Diggs,” a Patriots spokesman said in December. “Stefon has told the organization that he completely denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL if necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and as this is an ongoing legal matter, we cannot comment further at this time.”

Diggs pleaded not guilty in February 2026 and his attorney, Michael DiStefanohe predicted that the NFL star would be “totally released.”

Cardi and Diggs welcomed a baby boy together in November 2025. Cardi shares daughters Kulture, 7, and Blossom, 17 months, and son Wave, 4, with ex-husband Offset while Diggs has many children from previous relationships.
