Australia’s Sky News anchor and former Iranian citizen Rita Panahi commemorated the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with a poignant on-air rebuke on Saturday.

“This is going to be the shortest show I’ve ever done,” the “Outsiders” host said. “What I have to say is that after 47 years of Islamic rule, the dictator is dead, and Iran is in danger of being liberated. I never thought I would see this day in my life.”

He concluded his comments with what he called “gibberish Persian” meaning “Your father is a dog, let the dirt be on your head and rot in hell.” Colleague Rowan Dean agreed and noted that the news was about Panahi.

“We’ve seen the pain you’ve gone through with everything that’s been going on in Iran all the time I’ve known you, and it’s great to hear that you have hope. It’s great,” Dean said.

Panahi left Iran at a young age and reiterated that, although he knew the regime would eventually be overthrown, he never thought he would live to see it.

“If I went to Iran today, last week, I would be locked in prison and die immediately… They will know what I said about the regime, what I wrote about many things and I said it in programs like this, so I can never go back,” said Panahi.

He added that he was unable to visit family or bring his son to see the country and praised President Donald Trump for taking the opportunity to topple a leader in an election year.

“Also, when I talk about Donald Trump and his courage to do this … to do this in an election year when the midterms come, this is not a popular course of action. It is not even popular among many on his side, who do not want the United States to be involved in the internal politics of Iran to seek regime change. So for him to do this is such a big risk,” but Pana said the correct political thing.
