A new attack ad from Republicans targeting U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., criticizes the embattled Democratic senator for requiring entrants to his political rallies to show proof of identity, but says identification requirements to vote are a form of voter suppression.

Want to get into Jon Ossoff’s rally?” the ad’s narrator begins, before walking into a group of workers at Ossoff’s Feb. 7 rally asking for IDs.

“Don’t forget your ID” convention workers can be heard saying as people enter the Georgia International Convention Center located in metro Atlanta.

Meanwhile, Ossoff referred to efforts to establish strict photo identification and voter registration laws in state elections as “barefooted, completely ineffective, [and] bad faith.”

Ossoff’s team declined to comment on the matter.

On Wednesday, Republicans in the House of Representatives passed the latest version of the voter integrity law that aims to require stricter personal documentation requirements, such as requiring a photo-ID to vote. This bill is a broader and stronger version of the 2025 version of the bill that focused more on registering to vote versus the act of voting itself.

Before the vote passed, one of Ossoff’s Republican rivals in the upcoming US Senate race in Georgia, Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., called the incumbent Democrat senator “once. [saying] that the voter ID was ‘correct and appropriate,’ [but] he now supports his party as renaming it ‘voter suppression.’

“The law hasn’t changed. Public opinion hasn’t changed. What has changed is that he – and other Democrat politicians like him – realized that illegal immigrants could no longer vote to keep Democrats in office,” Carter said. “They oppose this bill because it seems clear and simple.”

Despite Ossoff’s previous opposition to voter integrity laws, his campaign event created a photo ID requirement as a security measure.

“Due to security requirements … be prepared to show ID similar to our RSVP list and these arrival instructions (printed or on your phone),” the campaign’s event confirmation email said.
