‘Pitt’ Star Shawn Hatosy Teases Dr. Abbot on Drama Season 2 Episode 7 Returns: “He’s on the SWAT Team…That’s Why He Listens to Police Cameras”

Since its inception in January, Pitt Season 2 reunites Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), Nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa), and a host of other familiar faces from the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s ED. One Season 1 standout who hasn’t appeared on the HBO Max hit yet? Dr. Jack Abbot by Shawn Hatosy.

Hatosy won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as a military veteran who runs PTMC after dark. While he appeared briefly in the first episode of PittAbbot’s popularity grew when he arrived at the ED to help with the mass death scene that took up the show’s final arc. How did you hear about it? Oh, he heard about it from his own police station.

We’re almost halfway through season two Pitt and still there was no sign of the Abbot. When DECIDER spoke with Shawn Hatosy (who is paired with Dr. Al-Hashimi’s actress Sepideh Moafi) during the Season 2 Junket, we revealed that we hadn’t seen him in the first six episodes. As we joked that we weren’t sure if he had joined the new season, Hatosy quipped, “Well, here, so I think.”

Hatosy then teased what will fuel Abbot’s dramatic return Pitt Season 2.

“Abbot is coming in [Episode 7]he’s working SWAT that day,” Hatosy said. “He’s on the SWAT team. They always go with a doctor in case something goes wrong and often bring someone trained in both worlds. So Abbot is a perfect fit. That’s what he does on his days off.”

Hatosy then connected the dots between Abbot’s Season 1 entry and Season 2. “That’s why he’s listening to the police cameras,” he says.

HBO Max has already confirmed, with Pitt In Season 2 Episode 7, Abbot will bring one of his SWAT comrades to the ED this week.

“That’s how we meet him in Season 2,” continued Hatosy. He is not working, but he comes to deal with this situation and soon Dr. Al-Hashimi says, ‘Who is this boy and why is he wearing fatigues?’

“‘SWAT? Really?‘” said Moafi, “I think that’s the line [I say].”

Like Dr. Jack Abbot, Shawn Hatosy enjoy side hustle Pitt. Apart from appearing in the show, Hatosy also directs Pitt Season 2 Episode 9. When we mentioned how Noah Wyle revealed being a cast member ironically gave him more access to the prep set, Hatosy agreed, while sharing a different hiccup he encountered.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s a unique show because the set is 95 percent where the action happens,” Hatosy said. “So, it’s a big leg up to be there all the time, knowing every room, knowing the layout and layout of PTMC.”

“It’s funny because when I’m working [Episode] 8 as an actor, it’s like I have to be in the world of 8, but you can’t help but think, ‘Well, that scene is going to be there. And I just saw this actor do this really cool thing,'” he said. It’s hard to tell the difference.”

“But this show has such a great cast – actors and writers – and being able to explore that journey as a director, it’s been very rewarding and I hope to do more.”

Pitt Season 2 Episode 7 premieres tonight at 9 PM ET on HBO Max.
