Pussycat Dolls members Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt have finally confirmed long-standing rumors that Britney Spears was set to make a cameo appearance in the 2008 music video for their hit song, “When I Grow Up.”
“If we turned around and waved it would be Britney waving to her,” Wyatt revealed exclusively on SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio on Thursday.
“I think he recorded it at one point, but for whatever reason it didn’t go through – I don’t think his team allowed it, to be honest,” he concluded.
The girl group opened for Spears on her 2008 “Circus” tour while promoting their second studio album, “Doll Domination,” where “When I Grow Up” served as the lead single.
The Pussycat Dolls officially disbanded in 2010, but earlier this month Page Six exclusively reported that some of its members will be reuniting.
On March 9, music insiders told us that the “Buttons” hitmakers were gearing up for a world tour after a 16-year hiatus and that lead singer Scherzinger is “definitely back” with the group.
Days later, the ladies officially announced the North American tour via Instagram.
This collaboration has been happening for a long time for musicians. They were expected to visit in 2020, but COVID-19 halted those plans.
Meanwhile, Scherzinger, 47, and the group’s founder, Robin Antin, were embroiled in a lengthy legal battle over the canceled tour.
Antin said in court papers that Scherzinger publicly announced she would participate, then said she would not go on stage unless she received 75% of the profits and full creative control — a move Antin called “fraud.” They reached an agreement in 2024.
That same year, as Scherzinger was about to make her Broadway debut in “Sunset Boulevard,” she didn’t rule out reuniting with the band that launched her to pop fame.
“I love my dolls. I love Pussycat dolls. So, I always say, ‘Never say never,'” she said in an interview with the Daily Mail at the time, while admitting she was “obviously in a different place” in her life.
“But you never know what the future holds,” he said, adding that he kept in touch with his bandmates.
“I’m so happy for the girls. I see them. I love hanging out with them on their Instagrams, and everyone’s thriving and looking great while doing it.”
