Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker recently highlighted the tranquility of Chicago’s shores and Lake Michigan in a video he posted on social media — the same area where an illegal alien shot and killed a college student last week.
“A lot of runners are coming,” Pritzker said in a video he posted on Facebook last September.
“The lakefront trail, the Lakefront Trail – it’s beautiful. Just beautiful. Look at that lake. Beautiful lakefront.”
The tone of the resurfaced clip contrasts with the death of Sheridan Gorman, the 18-year-old Loyola University student who was shot to death near Tobey Prinz Beach Park, which is part of the Chicago Police District 24.

Pritzker’s departure went viral on social media with many online viewers criticizing the governor for his depiction of the beach.
“Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have not released anything about the murder of Sheridan Gorman, who was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela,” Fox News Congressional Correspondent Bill Melugin wrote on X. “Last year, Pritzker made a video of the lakeside location where he was killed, mocking claims that it was unsafe.”
“Governor JB Pritzker posted this video of a Chicago lake to brag about how safe it is. Seridan Gorman was just killed there by someone from Venezuela whose law is PROTECTED,” wrote End Wokeness, a popular conservative account, on X’s post.
“> crossed the border illegally > let out of the country by Biden > arrested for shoplifting > released back to the street > killed an innocent girl,” wrote former Trump White House operative Greg Price.
“Pritzker posted this video bragging about how safe a Chicago lake is – right where Sheridan Gorman was recently killed by an illegal Venezuelan protected by his own country’s law. Not true,” another account wrote.

The area has seen significant increases in burglaries, burglaries and car thefts over the years, according to recent police reports. However, crime statistics have increased, according to crime statistics since March.
District 24 has reported three murders, 19 sexual assaults and 32 aggravated battery incidents so far in 2026.
The district has the second highest homicide rate of any of the six counties included in Chicago’s Area 3, which covers much of the city’s north side.
In Gorman’s case, authorities charged Jose Medina, who is originally from Venezuela, with murder.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Medina was previously arrested for shoplifting in Chicago but was released in June 2023.
Even before that, Medina had been caught by the US Border Patrol in May 2023. He was even allowed to walk freely at that time.
“Sheridan Gorman had his whole life ahead of him before this heartless killer decided to end his life. He was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who let this illegal alien go twice before he committed this horrific murder,” Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement.

“We are asking Governor JB Pritzker and the politicians of Chicago to pledge not to release this illegal criminal from prison back to American soil.”
Governor Pritzker’s office did not respond to a request for comment on Chicago’s waterfront location and its crime rates.
