London Screenings Top Shows include ‘The Wire’ Doc and Bella Ramsey’s ‘Maya’

Welcome to the Deadline Dozen, the twelve titles that will debut at London TV Screenings next week that we have chosen for the chance to play. Businesses distributing 43 records show their latest hot shows, so this is by no means an exhaustive list, but a selective take on what’s coming to market. The genres are drama, comedy, entertainment and documentary formats, and the companies that sell them include Screenings founders, European distributors, US studios and more. Read Dozen.

Anna Pigeon (Cineflix Rights)

Nevada Barr’s ‘Anna Pigeon’ novels come to the screen with London TV Screenings, with Cineflix rights to all merchandise. Chicago PD star Tracy Spiridakos takes the title role, playing a former town singer who becomes a park ranger after a traumatic loss changes the course of her life. As Anna tries to exorcise her demons, she becomes more focused on solving a crime that took place inside the national park. The series is a Bell Media (Canada) commission and Versant’s USA Network, the first time the two have collaborated in this way. Spiridakos joined Paulina Alexis (Booking Dogs) as a park ranger with Ronnie Rowe (Star Trek: Discovery) as an FBI agent. Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) plays Anna’s older sister while Kim Coates (Sons of the Flesh) appears as a wealthy landowner.

Cage (Fremantle)

The latest series from Respondent creator Tony Schumacher is a BBC six-parter starring Olivier who won Sheridan Smith and Michael Socha. The duo star as casino workers who both discover that the other is quietly running arteur heists where they work. They are forced into an uneasy relationship, as the local gangster they steal from is unwittingly caught by the police. Gambling on one last robbery becomes their last chance to escape. Shot in Liverpool and Manchester, the show comes from Element Pictures, Fremantle’s Irish production house that has been on a tear in recent years. Poor Things, Pillion, Ordinary People, Conversations with Friends again Dublin Murders. I’m with Socha, who teamed up with Element and Shane Meadows in the previous series The Gallow Poleand screen and theater actress Smith providing the tension, this is sure to attract curious buyers.

Girl Climber (Dogwoof)

If Netflix Skyscraper Live taught us anything, that TV audiences are hungry for a high-octane watch on human distress in a big building with no safety net. Execs will know this, so will Dogwoof’s Climber girl could be among the top docs in London next week. I Skyscraper Live The connection runs deep, as the doctor’s cinematography comes from Alex Honnold, the man who released Taipei 101 live on Netflix. Climber girl follows elite mountaineer Emily Harrington, who sets out to conquer Yosemite’s El Capitan in less than 24 hours. It’s a terrifying, vertigo-inducing nightmare for many, but for a five-time US national champion, it’s a huge test and proof that gender doesn’t mean anything in a sport that has long been dominated by men.

Dustfall (Organization Studios)

Tropic Noir is the new Scandi Noir. Dust, ABC Australia drama with more than a shadow of Above the Lakecomes to London with plenty of ingredients for a best-selling drama. First, the leading Anna Torv, of A news reader honor, Dust he has the best Australian actor in his game. You play the role of Tig Pollard, a detective who works on a tragic case after an 18-year-old child is found dead in a sugar cane. Torv joined Juliet Stevenson (Truly Madly Deeply), Zoe Phillips (Eden) and Bert LaBonté (Colin From Accounts), high-profile actors from the UK and Australia who lend money Dust others serious heft. With the BBC deal already in place, the Federation will hope that the series based on the Vikki Petraitis novel can continue to strengthen the French major’s position in the English-language content game. By the end of next week, Tropic Noir could be here to stay.

Blue Planet III (BBC Studios)

The seminal third installment The Green Planet The series comes half a century after the first, and will take full advantage of all the advances in camera technology and scientific discoveries to reveal new wonders of the sea. Over six episodes, the BBC and BBC America co-production will focus on tropical oceans, seasonal oceans, temperate oceans, high oceans and deep oceans, with the final ep focusing on the future of exploring and protecting Earth’s waters. Surprisingly, it has not been confirmed whether David Attenborough will return to narrate. At nearly 100 years old, it shouldn’t be a surprise if he doesn’t, but given his seemingly inexhaustible spirit in all things natural history, it could be a big talking point in the UK capital as the exhibition launches. Whether the answer to that question affects consumer desire remains to be seen, although we can’t bet. We’ll update if we hear anything from Blue Planet III screening next week at 180 Studios on the Strand.

Army of Shadows (Studiocanal)

The UK’s Channel 4 and France’s Canal+ have teamed up to produce the latest drama Top Boy, It’s a day of celebration again MobLand showrunner Ronan Bennett, and it’s one that should attract attention in London. Inspired by Jean-Pierre Melville’s 1969 film and Joseph Kessel’s book, set during the struggle in Nazi-occupied France during World War II, it is set in a near-future Britain falling under totalitarian rule. Against this backdrop, a former soldier, novelist and journalist became the unlikely leaders of an underground resistance network. The Melville family and the Kessel estate, managed by the Irish Red Cross, have both given their blessing to the partnership. Studiocanal is distributing, having developed it with STV Studios owned by Two Cities Television.

Taylor Swift’s friend Graham Norton is a man at the top of his game so there’s no better time for ITV Studios to shop their new street-worthy reality show. Norton, the host of the UK’s popular talk show, is a guest judge RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and having his book adapted for TV by FilmNation, will oversee proceedings as real-life families from all walks of life walk alongside each other and find themselves competing against tough challenges. Those challenges will change the dynamics behind closed doors and, in order to win, they will need to defeat their neighbors, while remaining popular on the street. It’s been a long time since a serious original show has been popular and ITV will be hoping it has landed on the next big thing. Think of this as the ultimate fairy tale of a group of neighbors crying.

Faithful (Fox Entertainment Global)

If you want a flexible book, Be honest it depends on one of the oldest existing IPs. This series is called a faithful imitation of the Book of Genesis, told through the eyes of women whose descendants would shape the future of faith as we know it. Episodes of the play are told through the eyes of five women from the Old Testament: Sarah and her servant Hagar, Sarah’s niece Rebekah, and Rebekah’s nieces, sisters Leah and Rachel. Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting) plays Sarah in the first installment along with Jeffery Donovan (Fargo) is Abraham. Danny Cannon (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) is directing and executive producing the first play. Carol Mendelsohn (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) is a major producer. Maya (All3Media International)

At any time, everyone wants to know what Daisy Haggard and Bella Ramsey are doing next, so the fact that they combine makes Two Brothers Pictures’. HBO’s The phone was top-notch and set a new bar for TV drama. Prey grabs the cash, desperately trying to protect their winnings while completing challenges to win more cash. Predators must hunt and steal their money. If they succeed, their roles are reversed and the whole game is reversed.

Wallander (Banijay Rights)

Wallander is back. The stories of Swedish detective Henning Mankell have previously been adapted for television with great success as Kenneth Branagh co-starring Kurt Wallander. The new Swedish-language take comes from Jarowskij/Yellow Bird, TV4 and Banijay Rights, and the following distribution. Gustaf SkarsgÃ¥rd (Oppenheimer, Vikings) takes on the title role in all three 90-minute specials that make up Season 1. The new adaptation promises to go deeper than ever, taking the audience under the skin of this iconic character. We find Kurt Wallander’s life changing as the reimagined show begins. Freshly divorced after twenty years of marriage and estranged from his daughter, he is on edge, drinking heavily and carrying the weight of all the unsolved cases.
