Photoshop’s AI Assistant Can Edit Photos for You, If You Want That

Anyone using Photoshop you always know that the photo editing app has received a major AI overhaul in the last few years. Adobe is taking its next step in that journey now. Photoshop’s AI Assistant is publicly available on the web and mobile apps.
Photoshop’s AI assistant is meant to be your editing partner. You can ask the AI to do almost any kind of editing, from changing the color of an object or removing a distracting object. While professional users may be comfortable doing such editing manually, an AI assistant may be more appealing to its less experienced users and people who work under less time constraints. Adobe Express, the company’s competitor to Canva, had a similar AI assistant available as a public beta a few months ago.
While these AI assistants won’t be the “everything machines” that ChatGPT or Gemini claim to be, it’s a strong sign that Adobe’s AI evolution is moving forward. They emphasize a “conversational, instrumental” experience — meaning you can ask a chatbot to do the editing, and it can handle it independently. The company’s focus on agent AI, such as most of the AI industryaims to persuade people to give jobs to AI.
Adobe Express is also getting an AI assistant.
Adobe’s AI ambitions
These AI efforts represent a range of what conversation editing can look like, Mike Polner, Adobe Firefly’s vice president of product marketing for creators, said in an interview.
“The other end of the spectrum is that [to] type prompt and say, ‘Make my hat blue.’ It’s that simple,” said Polner. “With Project Moonlight, it can understand your context, analyze it and help you come up with new ideas and help you analyze the content you already have,” said Polner.
This is what Project Moonlight’s chat interface would look like.
In a recent Adobe survey of 16,000 global creatives, 86% said they use AI for creative productivity. More than three-quarters (80%) said Gen AI helped them create content they otherwise wouldn’t have. The new figures coincide with the growing popularity of generative media tools, such as AI image and video generators, with new models such as OpenAI’s Sora again Google’s nano banana it will be viral this year.
Adobe has been in AI for a long time. In 2025, Adobe launches the first AI mobile applications Photoshop, Firefly again a new video editor called Premiere. Professional photographers, designers and illustrators are Adobe’s main customers not all have been sold Adobe’s AI ambitions, raising concerns about AIs legal, power consumption and ethics.
