Olivia Rodrigo Addresses Sabrina Carpenter Feud Rumors

Olivia Rodrigo gave an update on where you stand Sabrina Carpenter after rumors of a long feud.
“I think he’s great,” Rodrigo, 23, said of Carpenter, 26, in an interview with British Vogue published on Thursday, March 19. “I’m very happy with all his success again. I love the album he put out.”
Rodrigo added that everything is “right” between him and Mazi.
“However, everything is love,” she said. “I have spoken to him many times.”
The pop stars were rumored to be in a relationship following the release of Rodrigo’s hit song “Driver’s License” in 2021. It sparked speculation that Rodrigo was in a love triangle with Carpenter over his ex and ex. High School Music: Music: Series the costar Joshua Bassett. In the ballad, Rodrigo sings about a “blonde girl” who was close to him. Many fans believe that Carpenter was the blonde in question. (Carpenter and Bassett apparently began dating after her breakup with Rodrigo, but split in 2021.)
After the release of “License to Drive,” Carpenter released his single “Skin” which featured the line “Maybe blonde was the only rhyme.” Fans say the track turned Rodrigo on.
Carpenter previously talked about the speculation of the words “Skin” in an interview with him in June 2025 Rolling Stone.
“I didn’t do that on purpose. All I knew was that it wouldn’t stop me from doing what I love,” he said about the song. “That’s how I’ve always felt, sometimes that’s how you persevere.”
The carpenter added that at that time in his work he listened to his gut feelings.
“What that time taught me is to trust myself, to trust that everything will go the way it was supposed to, and to trust that relationships are placed in your life for a reason,” he recalled. “You won’t see that now, but you will later.”
Bassett also addressed the rumored love triangle, sharing that the focus should be on the women’s music and not their dating history.
“[Everyone] you ask me about Sabrina and Olivia. Why don’t we focus on these women as they are?” he said in an interview with 2021 GQ. “Let’s focus on the art they make and how beautiful it is instead of their relationship with the boy.”
Since the alleged love triangle, Rodrigo and Mbazi have been together many times as they have attended the same events over the years. The ladies shared a hug at the 2025 Grammys where Mbazi took home Best Pop Vocal Album for her record. Short ‘N Sweet and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Espresso.”
When Rodrigo issued his “Driver’s License” he was still in his teens. While talking to British Voguethe singer reflected on how her life is now in a different place compared to getting her big break when she was young.
“Sometimes I meet a 17- or 18-year-old kid today and I say, ‘Wow, he’s such a kid.’ I can’t believe that people treated me badly,” he told the newspaper on Thursday. “I was breaking up, working full time, fixing things [Sour]student in high school and taking, for example, three AP classes. When I look back, I always think, ‘Wow, life will never be as hard as it was when I was 17.'”
