Olivia Munn Says John Mulaney Helped Her Face ‘Death’

Olivia Munn she shares the darkest parts of her cancer journey, revealing how her husband John Mulaney it helped him to face “the odds of death.”

“There is no one better for me in the world than my husband,” said Mann, 45, on Sunday, March 29. CBS News Sunday morning. “He’s there—I mean you’ve met him. He wanted to come to see one doctor.”

Newsroom star explained that when she was “faced with the possibility of death and absence,” her husband lightened the load—physically and emotionally. (The pair, who said “I do” in July 2024, share two children, Malcolm and Méi.)

“He has his notebook where he writes all his ideas about jokes and whatever comes to him throughout the day,” he said. “You know, having a sense of humor to get by and being with someone who’s funny, really – it brightens everything up.”

In March 2024, Mulaney revealed that she had been diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer.

“In February of 2023, in an effort to try to take care of my health, I took a genetic test that tested me for 90 different types of cancer,” Munn wrote on Instagram at the time. “I tested negative for all of them, including my sister Sara’s BRCA (the most common cancer gene). [Potts] he had just tested negative again. We called each other and insulted each other over the phone. That same winter I had another regular mammogram.”

Two months after the negative results, Munn was diagnosed with cancer and subsequently underwent treatment.

“The surprising thing is that I have only cried twice,” he added. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt like there was a time to cry. My focus narrowed and I put on the table any emotions that I felt would interfere with my ability to stay focused.”

Munn’s treatment included multiple surgeries, including a double mastectomy, lymph node dissection, reconstructive surgery, a delayed nipple procedure, an oophorectomy and a partial hysterectomy.

Although she once considered giving up acting, in addition to her husband’s support, Munn says getting back in front of the camera actually helped her recovery.

“I was nervous about doing any sex scenes because I have so many scars,” Munnn said The Los Angeles Times in his interview in April 2025 Your Friends and Neighbors the character, Sam. “The scars that can be seen on clothes and the fear that you won’t know unless I’m completely naked.”
