Ohio husband Kyle Long who said wife stabbed herself 17 times to kill herself faces first-degree murder charge

An Ohio husband who said his wife stabbed herself to death 17 times after she told him she wanted to live separately has been charged with murder following a four-month investigation, according to police.
Kyle Long, 35, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murdering his wife, Rachel Long, at the couple’s $500,000 mansion in London, Ohio, shortly after 4 p.m. on October 23, 2025.
He told police that his 32-year-old wife and the mother of their two daughters came home from work before he went into the master bathroom as he worked at his desk.
Kyle Long said he then saw Rachel stab herself repeatedly in the neck and face a short time later, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Post.
Rachel Long was found on the bathroom floor next to the toilet covered in blood with stab wounds to her neck, face, arms and hands, court records said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police ordered Kyle Long to take off his clothes for a DNA test and to document any injuries on his body.
He was then brought to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for questioning, where he revealed that his wife had filed for a divorce.
Officials did not disclose how long it was between the separation request and Rachel Long’s death.
During the investigation, officials found text messages between Rachel Long and her friend before her death who showed no signs of suicidal thoughts as the two women discussed what they were wearing to a concert the next night.
A four-minute gap between the last text message and the 911 call from her husband’s phone helped reduce the number of incidents at the home, which police accused of tying up documents.
Kyle Long said he never called 911 twice – despite his call records revealing he had called four minutes before the second 911 call.
In a second round of questioning, Kyle Long gave “conflicting” answers that did not match his initial statements and evidence found in his home pointed to “a conflict between two people,” police said.
A 360-degree scan of the house identified investigators at the scene of the stabbing and found that Kyle Long did not see his wife stab herself from where she said she was sitting.
In addition, he said his wife used her right hand to stab herself.
An autopsy on Rachel Long’s body revealed multiple “defensive” wounds and cuts on her right arm and hand that she would not have been able to inflict using only her right hand.
At least 17 “powerful accidents” have been found on Rachel Long.
Rachel, who had her own pet care service, was remembered for her love of animals.
“An animal lover at heart, she was also active in rescuing dogs. She was an avid reader and loved going to rock concerts,” her autobiography reads.
Her death was ruled a homicide by the Montgomery County Coroner’s office.
An arrest warrant was issued for Kyle Long, accusing him of “intentionally causing Rachel’s death.”
He is being held on a $1.5 million bond. No plea was entered in the case as of Saturday.
