Obama blasts homeless ‘brutal’ in Gavin Newsom

Barack Obama slammed California Gov. Gavin Newsom for the “cruelty” of the homeless in Los Angeles on Saturday.

During an interview with YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama explained: “We have to realize that the average person doesn’t want to walk around in a tent city in the middle of the city.

“That’s a lost political strategy.”

“I think it’s moral – if we talk about morality – it’s a bad thing that in such a rich country, we have people on the streets, and we should insist on policies that recognize their full humanity – homeless people – and be able to provide them with the help and resources they need.”

Meanwhile, in his State of the Union address at the Capitol last month, Newsom celebrated the decline in homelessness across the country; however, Los Angelenos were not here for false hopes.

Business owners, residents, and local leaders say the governor’s claims of a 9% drop do not match the reality of widespread corporate and community drug use.

Even inside the Capitol, lawmakers reacted cautiously after Newsom’s victory.

California has spent more than $24 billion on homeless programs during Newsom’s tenure as governor, with spending increasing each year.

By 2024, homelessness reached a record high across the country, with nearly 124,000 people without shelter, according to federal data. Newsom did not share the statewide figure for 2025, and updated census data is not yet available.

Outside of politics, Obama also said he believes immigrants are real – but invisible.

The former president did not give any more details about what he means by “real” – and no follow-up questions on the subject were asked – but he used this appearance to question several old theories about where they could be.

“They’re not kept in Area 51, there’s no underground facility, unless there’s this big conspiracy and they’re hiding it from the president of the United States,” Obama said.

Area 51 refers to a secret Air Force base in Groom Lake, Nevada. There has long been talk of conspiracy theorists who believe that the government is hiding unidentified planes and bodies in the compound.

Interest in possible contact with Earth has increased in recent years after a series of government documents revealed several mysterious UFO sightings.

A leaked radar image taken by United States Airforce drones 13 years ago is said to show Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs), the new government term for UFOs, flying over the Middle East.

The photos were shared by journalists and prominent UFO researchers George Knapp and Jeremy Corbell in early February.
