‘Nostalgia is big right now’

Another movie “American Pie” has been baking long enough.
For Jason Biggs, who starred as Jim Levenstein in the 1999 comedy, returning to the franchise would be a dream come true.
“There are always conversations,” the actor, 47, told The Post exclusively at the premiere of his new film “Operation Gary Taco’s” on Tuesday. “It’s always loud, I can tell you I’d love to get back together with everyone and do another one if it’s the right story.”
Biggs added, “I think it would be really fun. I love playing that character. I love working with those guys and gals. Everybody’s just — family, you know? So I’d love to do it. And honestly, I feel like enough people are asking and there’s enough fans. Nostalgia is huge right now.”
In 2024, star Thomas Ian Nicholas revealed that a fifth script was in the works, but screenwriter Adam Herz said the talks ended.
The original films also starred Eugene Levy, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Mena Suvari, Chris Klein, Tara Reid, Eddie Kaye Thomas and Natasha Lyonne.
The sex comedy franchise spawned three more films: “American Pie 2” in 2001, “American Wedding” in 2003 and “American Reunion” in 2012.
And Biggs has an inkling or two about where Jim will be today.
“Boy, I think he’s dealing with his high school son going through a lot of the same pranks that he was exposed to and got himself into when he was in high school,” the star reflected. So I think he’s taking on the role of Jim’s father, Eugene Levy’s role.
“We have a grandfather. So I think that’s where he’s at. That’s the stage of life he’s in.”
In January, Biggs revealed why it was time to let his eldest son Sid, 11, who he shares with wife Jenny Mollen, know about his infamous “American Pie” scene.
“They’ve always heard about ‘American Pie’ and pie [asking]’Dad, what are you doing with the pie?’ and I had to have a conversation with my oldest,” Biggs recalled while on SiriusXM’s “The Julia Cunningham Show.” “I actually showed him the scene. Jenny and I talked about this, and we were like, ‘We want to continue this.'”
The scene in question showed Jim being caught by his father in a predicament with a freshly baked pie.
“My version of sex talk, right?” Biggs, who is also father to son Lazlo, 8, detailed. “It’s like, how much do you want them to hear from friends and other people at school, and how much control do you want to control the narrative, and that was really happening with ‘American Pie.'”
For Sid, it was a difficult moment until his father played the video.
“He was embarrassed to say it, embarrassed, but I said, ‘Okay, let me show you, let me show you what happened.’ So I showed him the scene, and he laughed and laughed.”
“He was uncomfortable, for sure,” the “Saving Silverman” star admitted. “He said I’m a good player.”
But Biggs isn’t far from comedy, as he currently stars in “Operation Taco Gary’s” alongside Brenda Song, Simon Rex, Arturo Castro, Tony Cavalero and Dustin Milligan.
The film sees “two brothers embark on a cross-country journey that quickly takes off when they collide with a global conspiracy,” according to the synopsis.
Working with the group was a joy for Biggs, who shared with The Post that Castro, 40, “can’t take a joke.”
“He’s so funny,” said the “Wedding Daze” actor. “You’re too fast.”
When it comes to cutting back on work, Biggs has one guilty pleasure he likes to indulge in.
“Here’s the thing. My guilty pleasures — I’m not guilty. I’m innocent. I love reality TV and ‘The Bachelor,’ and ‘The Bachelorette.’ That was my biggest thing for a long time,” he said. “I stopped a little bit because I have kids and it’s hard to stay on top of these things.”
