Dyson’s First Wet Dry Robot Vacuum Boasting Better Stain Detection and Advanced Cleaning

Dyson is one of the top manufacturers of cordless vacuums In the world, we find a few places on our list of the best cordless vacuums for their strong cleaning performance and attractive design. Although not famous for it, the company has been doing it robotic vacuum cleaners since the 1990s, with its first model, the DC06, released in 2001. The newest is the Dyson Spot+Scrub AI, the first wet and dry robotic vacuum cleaner.
“Now we’ve created a robot that intelligently detects, identifies and cleans stains, spills and debris, identifies stubborn stains and repeats them until they’re gone, using advanced AI,” said James Dyson, founder of Dyson, in a statement. “It’s a smart, smart and flexible machine. The wet roller even cleans itself with fresh water as it rotates, ensuring your floor is always clean.”
The Spot+Scrub AI takes over from previous models like the Dyson 360 Vis Nav and competes directly with models from Roborock, Ecovacs, Eufy, Shark and others that have been dominating the robot vacuum market recently. I saw it in action for a while at Dyson’s Soho store, looked at it clean and wandered around the boxed area. It wasn’t an extensive demo, but it worked well in an enclosure, cleaned up dirt, and then unloaded and cleaned itself in a nearby docking station.
Spot+Scrub is the company’s first wet and dry robot vacuum, but it comes with many of the features we’ve come to expect from high-end models.
It cleans using what Dyson calls a 12-point hydration system, which uses hot, clean water from the roller to remove stains. The roller cleans itself with each rotation, a feature we’ve seen in many high-end robotic shutters at this point, so it’s good to see Dyson joining the club. The roller also extends to 1.6 inches to clean tight corners and skirting boards.
Perhaps most notable is Dyson’s AI stain detection system, which the company says can identify 200 types of household items and objects and can revisit the same spot until the stain is removed. It uses the bright LED light we saw on it Dyson PencilVac again Dyson V16 Piston Animal detects the stain (with some help from the camera with AI), and continues to clean the area until the stain is removed.
“By combining lidar room scanning technology and camera vision systems, Spot + Scrub Ai is able to detect stains and navigate precisely around obstacles, while cleaning and washing floors,” said Jake Dyson, senior engineer at Dyson, in a statement. “It constantly adapts its cleaning patterns based on real-time detection of dirt, sticky spills, and stains. When it sees a stain, the robot makes 15 focused cleaning passes on the area, using its HD camera to monitor until the stain is completely removed. Meanwhile, the cleaning roller is always washed with hot water when it goes smoothly, to make sure that the whole area is clean when it goes well, to make sure that every area is clean when it goes well.”
The Spot+Scrub AI has a self-emptying bagless dust bin in its docking station, as well as a tank for fresh and dirty water.
This sounds similar to the feature Shark revealed in The unveiling of Shark UVwhich uses a combination of UV light and an AI camera to identify stains and a traditional flat pad to clean. Spot+Scrub also boasts object avoidance capabilities and supports the MyDyson app.
In terms of other specs, you’re looking at a docking station with a glass cyclonic self-emptying dustbin. Dyson says it can keep up to 100 days of dust and comes with a dust filter that can keep particles as small as 0.1 microns. There are 0.6 liters of fresh water and 0.55 liters of dirty water.
I Spot+Scrub AI it will run $1,199, and is available now from Dyson. However, it is not the only cleaning product that Dyson releases.
Dyson wet and dry cleaners
Clean+Wash Hygiene is Dyson’s new wet and dry cleaner.
Also new is the Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene wet and dry cleaner. Similar to other Dyson models we’ve seen and tested, it’s a wet and dry cleaner that doesn’t use suction. Instead, it uses a microfiber roller to remove dirt from hard flooring, and it doesn’t come with a debris filter that needs cleaning or can get clogged. It is more intense than Dyson PencilWash which I have to meet before in the Soho store, but it is not too heavy at 8.4 kilograms.
Like the PencilWash, it can lie flat and under low furniture with its 4.4-inch profile. There’s also a docking station for heated air drying and self-cleaning, a feature I’ve been looking for in Dyson wet and dry cleaners for a long time. Clean+Wash Hygiene costs $499 and is available now.
Finally, the aforementioned PencilWash will be available starting Tuesday.
