Nancy Guthrie who kidnaps person of interest Carlos is released after being arrested by the police

The Arizona DoorDash driver who was arrested by law enforcement Tuesday night while searching for Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapper has been released after several hours in custody.

A recently released man, who identified himself as a delivery driver named Carlos, expressed his frustration after authorities arrested him in connection with the alleged kidnapping of the 84-year-old mother of “Tonight” host Savannah Guthrie – both of whom he had never heard of.

“They held me against my will,” Carlos, 36, told reporters outside his home. They didn’t even read me my rights until two hours later.”

The man said his wrists were swollen from the handcuffs.

Carlos, standing outside his home in Rio Rico – a small border community about 60 kilometers south of Tucson – proclaimed his innocence after his release.

“What the f–k am I doing here? I didn’t do anything to be honest, I’m innocent,” he recalled.

The man says he was riding in a car with his wife when they saw police cars following them. They decided to go out, Carlos jumped out of the car.

Carlos said he works in Tucson to deliver packages, but he doesn’t remember meeting Guthrie, who was reported missing on Feb. 1.

“I told them, I work in Tucson at GLS, I may have delivered a package to his house but I have never kidnapped anyone,” he told ABC15. “They arrested me from 4:00 pm until now.”

Carlos says he told investigators he had never heard of Guthrie or his daughter, “Today” host Savannah Guthrie, because he doesn’t watch the news.

“I hope they find the suspect, because I’m not the one. And they better do their job and find the suspect who did that to clear my name, I’m done,” said Carlos.

Carlos says he was never given a reason why officials wanted him in the investigation, and no charges were filed against him.

Timeline of Savannah Guthrie’s mother’s disappearance:

While he was in custody, authorities began searching Carlos’ home, where he lives with his wife, children and in-laws.

It is not known what the officers were looking for, but Carlos said officers broke down the front and garage doors.

“Look what they put my family in,” he said pointing to the front door.

Carlos’s mother-in-law says that all their mobile phones were confiscated, as well as the car that Carlos was riding in.

“They showed me the video so they could see it was him, so I could see … if I knew what he was wearing, he doesn’t have that. He doesn’t have anything from the video,” Carlos’ mother-in-law told ABC15.

“They came inside, they broke the doors of my house, they came inside and took my son to the living room,” she said.

The woman said she was unaware of Nancy Guthrie’s case. He only saw the news on Facebook, but did not follow the story closely.

“They asked us many questions about it, like I said I have nothing to hide, you can enter my house, you can investigate whatever you want, nothing is hidden, I don’t know this lady, I don’t know about this lady,” he told NewsNation.

The car was returned to the family.

Earlier on Tuesday, the FBI released photos of a masked and “armed” man caught on video tampering with a security camera outside Guthrie’s old home on the morning of her disappearance.

The suspect was seen holding a flashlight in his mouth – and wandered around Nancy’s porch wearing sneakers, a fleece and a backpack as he fumbled for the camera, one point grabbing nearby flowers and placing them in front of the lens.

A handgun was seen stuck in the front of the pants.
