His First Statement
The hockey world was still reeling from the news of Johnny’s death when Meredith posted her first statement.
“Thank you for the best years of my life,” he wrote days after his death. “Despite losing you, I’m still the luckiest girl in the world to be yours.”
The text continued, “I love you so much. You were perfect. Some days it felt too good to be true. I love everything about you. You are mine forever and I can’t wait to be with you again. I love you so much forever and ever.”
His letter to Johnny
Almost a year after Johnny’s death, Meredith wrote an emotional letter to her late husband, reflecting on the grief he was carrying and the physical pain he had taken on his body.
“I was shocked. I stayed sick for days because of my stomach,” he wrote in a letter published by the newspaper Players’ Tribune in June 2025. “It is indescribable, the person who is able to bring me together is my sister-in-law, I see her and my heart aches for her.”
