The hit series Paramount Network presents Us to Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Monica (Asbille), who remained at the center of the show. After becoming a teacher at a local school on the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, Monica went on to become a professor at Montana State University while living a healthy life with Kayce, who brought them back to the Yellowstone Ranch when she experienced a previous separation from her father John (Kevin Costner).
After John’s death, Kayce, a former US Navy SEAL, became the new owner and operator of Yellowstone Ranch. Kayce and Monica ended the show alive – and together – before The Marshals he entered them again.
According to the official synopsis, Y: Marshals, which will premiere on March 1, follows Kayce as he leaves “a good life behind to join a special group” of US Marshals while “combining his skills as a cowboy and a Navy SEAL to bring justice to Montana, where he and his colleagues must balance family, work and the high cost of protecting the violence associated with the war.”
In addition to Grimes, the show stars Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brett Cullen again Logan Marshall Green. A sneak peek showed Kayce discussing new beginnings, bones in her closet and past traumas – while Monica was nowhere to be found.
“We really wanted to make sure we gave it a real story and made it compelling and made it believable,” Grimes told PEOPLE in June 2025 about the Marshalls. “If it was like, ‘Well, he’s happy’ – we’re just going to see him happy? That’s not fair at all. But I will say this, the idea that was given to me is very good and very interesting and it really engaged me and I think it will engage the audience as well.”
He added: “There will be some familiar faces. There will be a lot of new faces, so we’ll see how it all feels. Going back to it in a new environment will be kind of a change.”

Absence of Kelsey Asbille as Monica Despite focusing on Kayce’s family

The first trailer for the show showed a wedding ring on Kayce’s finger, which could mean she’s still married – or widowed – following the events of the show. Yellowstone series finale. Asbille, on the other hand, was not announced as a cast member for the Marshalls, did not appear in any promotional video and did not break his silence on his future with the franchise.

If Asbille’s absence from all things The Marshals wasn’t enough, the CBS series relied on creepy messages about Kayce’s state of mind.
“I fought every day to get out of the weight of Yellowstone. I’ve lost my colleagues, my parents and even my brothers,” said Kayce in a whisper as the clips showed him going to the makeshift grave of a loved one.
Kayce revealed that he wants to start over. “Sometimes good men have to do bad things,” he added. “But I’m trying to get a fresh start.”
In another clip, Kayce said the “only thing” he “ever wanted” was “taken” from him. His friend Pete (Green) is later seen performing a “wellness check” on Kayce, who has “demons to overcome” after an off-screen situation. Kayce gave another update on his life, saying, “Yellowstone is gone — so is most of my family.”

While the Marshals sneak peek scene features Kayce and son Tate (Brecken Merrill) together watching the body being covered in their house. A moment at the end of the trailer showed Kayce with a woman – presumably meant for Monica – in what appears to be a flashback or dream sequence.
