‘Lost’ alum Matthew Fox talks life in Italy after leaving Hollywood

Matthew Fox has made a rare comment about his quiet life in Italy after leaving Hollywood more than a decade ago.

“I love it,” the “Lost” alum said of living abroad on Wednesday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Fox shared that he is doing his best to learn the native language.

“I’m getting there,” he said. It is not an easy language to learn, but I am learning it.”

Despite not being fluent in Italian, Fox, a licensed private pilot, can still fly in his new country.

“The language of airplanes is English, even in Europe,” he explained, confirming that it is the same in Asian countries.

“We’re lucky. No wonder everyone hates us,” Kimmel, 58, said with a laugh.

“Of course,” Fox replied with a laugh.

Fox rose to fame with her roles in “Party of Five,” which ran from 1994 to 2000, and “Lost,” which ran from 2004 to 2013, after which she largely retired from acting.

In a recent interview with Variety, Fox said he took his hosting leave “to spend more time with my family.”

“I missed their friendship because I was always on ‘Lost’ and doing movies and promoting everything,” he said of his children, Byron, now 25, and Kyle, now 28, who he shares with wife Margherita Ronchi.

“It was the right time for me to step back and take a moment to share with the people I love and care about most in the world,” he added.

In 2008, Fox told People that her family was considering moving to Oregon to live a quieter life.

“I enjoy fishing, hiking and skiing,” he shared. “Mountains and fresh air and all these things are easily found in Oregon without having to drive far.”

Fox is back in the limelight with her role in Taylor Sheridan’s new series “The Madison,” which centers on a New York City family who relocates to Montana’s Madison River Valley after a devastating plane crash kills two relatives.

The show also starred Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell and Patrick J. Adams.

On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Fox said the show’s script was “fun.”

However, Fox said he could not reveal more about the project because “there are too many spoilers.”

“But it’s a great series,” he added.

“The Madison” premieres March 14 on Paramount+.
