Why Bridgerton’s Kate, Anthony Won’t Get Their Own Spinoff After Absence
BridgertonKate and Anthony won’t get their own after not appearing in the latest seasons of the Netflix series.
The author Julia Quinn you are only told Us Weekly what viewers can expect after Kate (Simon Ashleyand Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) were absent from the first half of season 4.
“They’re coming back – they’re definitely coming back. People have to remember that Jonathan Bailey is busy and Simone Ashley has an amazing career,” Quinn explained of the fictional couple who haven’t been on screen so far. “I’m very grateful that the actors took the time to do this.”
Quinn thought it would last a long time Bridgerton streamed on Netflix.
“With all the actors’ plans, it’s not possible to take them there for a full season,” he teased. “The scenes they’re in are very exciting so I’m very happy. I think Kate and Anthony’s fans will be very happy when they see them.”
Although Kate and Anthony are back on the show, there don’t appear to be any plans for a spinoff, according to Quinn. Us“I’m like, ‘Can we just go with them to India?’ Well, that won’t happen, I’m afraid. Not after we become Bad and all these things. I think they won’t commit to a TV show.”
Anthony and Kate’s romance was the focus of season 2 in 2022. Since most of the season focused on Anthony’s exit from dating his sister, Edwina (Charithra Chandran), before meeting Kate, viewers expected the couple to play a major role in season 3.
Season 3, however, featured Anthony and Kate sharing a few scenes before disappearing on their second honeymoon. They returned late in the season to announce Kate’s pregnancy, which is when the couple decided to take a trip to India. Season 4, which premiered earlier this month, detailed Anthony and Kate’s progress in keeping them in India after the arrival of their first child.
No further information has been given about where they are – or when they will return to London for the new social media season.
“I think the strength of sending them to India for a while is that it leaves the door open for them to come back, the schedules allow,” the runner. Jess Brownell he told Vogue Youth of actors in June 2024. “I think that, understandably, if any of our main actors have given their lives in their season, in future seasons, we want to support the fact that they have other projects coming up, and asking actors to come back just to be in the background is really not fair to them.”
Brownell clarified that the writers’ room wants Bailey and Ashley back “as much as they can”, adding, “They give so much, even the little looks and gestures. They’re a magical pairing, absolutely.”
Meanwhile, Brownell explained Kate and Anthony’s planned vision.

“I think after everything they’ve been through in their season, obviously what we’ve been focusing on this season was to show them in a loving place. But we wanted to emphasize that they’re still the Kate and Anthony you know,” he continued. “They’re still yelling at each other and getting angry. We wanted them to appear that way … they’re in a much smarter place, both of them, in their relationships and relationships.”
Off-screen, Quinn launched his JQ Editions to promote similar historical romance novels.
“I get a lot of students who want to know, like, ‘What am I studying after Bridgerton?’ And, ‘I’m new to the love of history, and what should I learn?’ And now I can be like, ‘This. This is what you should read. These are my favorite books,’” he shared with Us. “I recommend books on social media. But this one, it’s going to be six books a year to start. So these are the top, these are the best. This is what I’m saying, ‘This is the one you should read and I’m sending it to your house.’
The author has also partnered with Spotify to promote the first page game of its kind, where readers can connect physical books and e-books to audiobooks on Spotify with a single scan.
“My jaw dropped,” Quinn said of seeing the feature for the first time. “I know a lot of people who have one book they’re reading and another they’re listening to because they’re reading in bed and listening to stuff at the gym.
